do you belive the storys of woman not knowing they were pregnant till labour

I've wondered this quite often.
I've never been pregnant so not sure how it actually 'feels' but I just don't understand how you couldn't know, espcially those that go to hosp[ital with pains and end up being in labour.
My mum didn't actually know she was pregnant with my sister until she was 5 months, yet with me (her first) she knew straight away before she had even taken a test so it's not like she didn't know the signs.

My cousin found out she was pregnant with her fourth child and then gave birth 2weeks later to her dd! She had no idea at all, despite having three ds's! Her dd was born at approx 36/37 weeks and was absolute fine.

I think it is more of a fact of a little denial, and alot of the symptoms being written off as normal other things and not going to a doctor. I mean I am a type of person who doesn't go to the doctor for everything so I could see how that could happen, and if their belly's don't show it just is further proof in their minds that they couldn't be preggo if they arnt showing!

No, I don't understand that. And it always seems to happen when they're on the toilet haha.

I know someone personally who didn't find out she was pregnant until a month before she was due. Her ex got her pregnant and she didn't know. She is a body builder so her periods were always all over the place, she never got much of a belly because she is in such good shape. It wasn't until she went to the doctor because she wasn't feeling well that they did bloodwork and discovered she was pregnant. So she had a month to get everything ready for her DS, he is a healthy 2 year old now.

I don't see how you can totally have no idea that you are pregnant? Surely you must be able to feel the baby move especially at the latter stages, makes me wonder if sometimes they are just in denial about it. Thats just my opinion i can't say for sure coz i've never been there but having been pregnant you can surely feel the baby move....i get some people don't really show but a baby moving is such a definite strong feeling i don't see how you can miss it.

Not every pregnancy, woman or baby is the same. Surely you should know that?

No, I don't understand that. And it always seems to happen when they're on the toilet haha.

I think the reason they are nearly always on the toilet is because when you are in labour, and you have the urge to push, the pressure feels very similar to needing to poop, so you can see that the tummy cramps and the pressure are mistaken for needing to use the bathroom.

Yes I believe its true for some women, with my grandma, my mother was a surprise baby, my grandma thought she was in menopause stage, and she apparently had spotting everynow and then so didn't pay attention, then when she was into labour she thought she was having apendix problems so got rushed to the hospital and found out she was in labour. :haha:
And then I know this one girl whos period was all over the place so she had no idea she was pregnant, and didn't know til she was in labour.
I think its more of a case if you're not paying attention to the signs, also if you're on the big side so that you don't show.

This happened to my DH's ex-wifes neice...she was 16, she "says" she had no idea. But then she also said she was a virgin too...haha.
They went in to the hospital becuase she was having stomach pains, and ended up delivering a little girl. Didnt know until as she puts it..."somethings coming out of me!" Now I dont believe that she didnt know, I think that she had an idea that she was pregnant but was too afraid to tell anyone. She was and is a little overweight but nothing bad and she didnt look pregnant to me when I had seen her about a month previous.
Now the reason why they are all having kids in the toilet is becuase you really do feel like you have to poo. I know I almost did and I was in the hospital, the contractions and pushing movements are the exact same as when you have to go to the bathroom. I was so scared that I would poo on myself during delivery that I tried to go after I felt the pressure, 5 mins after I got back in bed my water broke!

Omg I thought the same too. I watched one who was pregnant with TWINS!! how could you not know? I mean I'm small and both my pregnancies I grew and put 2 stone on an my belly was huge and them kicks where defo not gas!!! And my babies where small guess they had strong bones lol.
But it does make u think xx

i have to agree with my lecturers at uni that say deep down you must know.

im a student midwife and im yet to see anyone that doesnt look pregnant at term....or even 30 weeks to be honest.

also theres no mistaking a baby kicking. after a while it doesnt feel like gas anymore, i used to be able to see LO's bum moving across my stomach lol x

I used to work with a girl, I call her that as we were both in our late teens. One day I saw her stomach and asked her if she was pregnant, although she was a big girl on this occasion she was very round and very high. She said no no no. Three weeks later we heard she had given birth but didn't know she was pregnant.

I have to say I noticed it and it was very obvious to me however if someone tells me they are not pregnant I am not in the habit of calling them a liar.

Yeah I agree..im not saying its impossible to not know..but I really believe that alot of women just try to get on those shows so they will say they didnt know. Whether a woman will show or not..being pregnant in the later stages is just very uncomfortable and kicking of the baby is obvious. If I didnt suspect I was pregnant in later pregnancy..I would think something was severally wrong with me and would have my butt up at emerg. Any time that I complain of stomach pains at the hospital or doctors..they do a routine pregnancy test to rule that out where I live. Again...I am not saying it cant happen..theres exceptions to every rule but I just think most of the time they were either trying to hide it or...i dunno.

hello my best friend didnt know she was pregnant she just felt a bit rough every now and then. she didnt. know she was pregnant and had a pre mature baby who passed away a few weeks later. her girl would have been ten and she blames herself for not knowing and if she had known would it have been different. not saying everyone who says they had no idea are telling the truth or maybe they were in denial but my friend had no head and still had periods x

i have a friend who was around a size 16, with a belly on the bigger side. it was normal for her to go 6-7 months without a period...she found out she was pregnant and gave birth less than 3 weeks later.

Any of the ladies posting on here from the UK, did you see Holby City last night?

Funny I came accross this thread yesterday and they had this story line on Holby last night!!
But then saying that, the lady had many other medical problems, including trying to lose weight for heart surgery, but she had put on a stone and was munching out of crisps, and crap!! She was asked if she didnt feel the baby move and she said she thought it was just gas!!

baby's first movements feel like gas, but once you get to late second tri there is no confusing baby's kicks for gas pains!! gas pains arent usually in my ribs to start off with :/

I read an article recently about a woman who went into the hospital in her size 6 skinny jeans with abdominal pains and gave birth to a full term daughter so I don't think you even need to be a bigger lady to not know you're pregnant if you're carrying it at the back. Everyone's pregnancy is that different I suppose.

I'd believe it. Not just for women who are overweight either. There are plenty of normal sized women who think they've just put on a little bit of weight and have nearly carried a baby full term. I think a lot of this has to do with, as someone said before, not understanding body clues. Also, these women also often have irregular periods and can go a long time without having one. They often believe that this is what's causing a lot of their problems. Additionally, their doctors often have written off the ability of these women to get pregnant and therefore don't contribute whatever pains they are having to pregnancy.

This is what happened to my Momma! Haha

So true because I don't get pregnancy test everytime. I'm very irregular...
