Do you change your baby's diaper at night? How frequently?

Stephie - I thought huggies were going to stop making nappies (UK) so you might have trouble finding them.

I'd heard that! I'm in Dubai and our huggies are quite strange - they are printed with a camel on the front! Lol! Definitely not the same ones you get in the UK! I hope I can find some overnight nappies somewhere, it's a great idea and might help our sleep issues.

can you get pampers baby dry they are a 12 hour hold too :)

I don't change my baby at night, he STTN, so it clearly can't be bothering him, I change him first thing and last thing at night, why wake a baby up if they're happily sleeping?

I've seen this advice so many times: even if your baby is waking multiple times per night you probably shouldn't change them. If they were STTN they wouldn't get changed, so why disrupt them? You're sort of perpetuating the night wakings by waking them up just that little bit more to change them rather than getting them back to sleep ASAP.

For the first month or so I would change pretty much every time she woke, but then she started to sleep longer stretches and poo less, so I let her be. Now I will only change her in the night if I've tried everything else and she still won't sleep, I'll say, well, I might as well!

We used cloth overnight for a good 6 months too and she never had nappy rash from being in one for 12 hours straight (had to stop because I need new overnights, they don't hold enough any more :dohh:)

Thanks for the tip!! Ill take a look today :)

Wow, did you wake up on the Judgey-McJudgerson side of the bed today? He STTN, unless I smell poo, I will NOT be waking him to change him. I don't even unzip his sleeping bag to check, just a quick bum sniff before I go bed. You carry on doing what your doing, but my LO has NEVER had nappy rash so clearly he can handle it

Oh I'm such a bad mother! LO wears the same Pampers nappy for 12 hours and she sttn in her own bedroom!

I don't even go and check on her unless she makes a racket!

Harry would be furious with me if I woke him to change him at night... Especially if I tried to sit him on a potty.

I don't understand why you started this thread? Did you want a pat on the back? Or we're you hoping it would be controversial and you could sit back and watches argument unfold??

I know I've already posted but feel the need to again-unless it's a dirty nappy, don't wake baby up to change them, you're only disrupting their sleep pattern. If they're awake for a feed or whatever then sure why not, but if they're sleeping peacefully let them be.

I use cloth nappies and I just make sure I add extra inserts to cover the fact bub sleeps STTN and a fresh nappy before bed and I have only had one night where she peed thru her clothes. Otherwise I only change her if she wakes for a feed (she goes back to sleep well at night). No way I am waking my baby for a nappy change if she is happy to sleep. I'd rather be sleeping myself.

LO goes down to bed at half 7 but treats it as a nap and wakes at 10ish so I usually get him up and change him at 10 and then he will sttn so I won't change him unless he's pooed :-)

I change my LO whenever SHE feels wet. Whether the nappy has wee in it or not isn't relevant with modern nappies (and yes, we use cloth nappies). So no, I don't change her overnight because although she wees quite a lot, her skin stays feeling dry because we have great nappies. I used to change her whenever she woke because she was waking properly, to be fed, to be changed, to have a cuddle etc. When she started sleeping longer, it became very disruptive to her sleep to change her in the night - she would be woken by being changed and become very upset, then unable to go back to sleep. Changing her nappy would be cruel to her - we try to be baby led so if she is happy to sleep in the same nappy all night and it's not harming her (no nappy rash or anything) and she is obviously unhappy to be changed, I'm not going to change her! It might make me feel good to say "Oh yes, I never let a used nappy stay on my baby's bum more than 5 minutes" but it would not be doing the right thing by my baby. That's her temperament, maybe some babies don't mind being woken or will sleep through a change... or maybe some babies just get used to their parents waking them and disturbing their sleep, I don't know.

When I'm old and peeing in my bed, I'll opt for a nice nappy that will hold my wee overnight thanks. I won't be wanting to be changed every 2 hours!

I'm seriously confused who wakes a sleeping baby to change a wet nappy thats not leaking... You have to get them out of their warm bedding, undress them, expose them to the cold when they were snuggly and comfy for the sake of being able to say 'I never leave my baby in a nappy thats been wet for all of 5 minutes'

Can I just say though, babies don't wee when they're asleep. Therefore a baby who sttn will have a drier nappy than one that doesn't so it's not right to say that because some babies sttn your baby should have a drier nappy too. Not sure if anyone actually said that but it has come across.

I change Joel's nappy once in the night. I stopped changing Isabelles at about 6 months. I agree that a wet nappy does no harm in the night as long as its not overflowing.

What? Of course they wee when they sleep. We would too if we didnt have the ability to hold it/recognition to wake up and go to the loo, but babies don't have this. I put my son to bed in a dry nappy, he STTN and wakes up with a wet one. Must be the wee wee fairy then.

Really? My LO just started STTN again (:happydance:) and her nappy is just as wet as when she was waking multiple times per night. She's changed before every nap too and wakes up damp. I can imagine this being true for some babies but not all

Thats not really true, one of the signs of potty training is waking with a dry nappy as theyve developed the ability to hold urine!

I think it has more to do with how many night feeds they have then whether or not they sttn.

How do you explain kids wetting the bed, do you think they just wake up, wee in the bed and go back to sleep?
