As above really! What's the deal with them being unsafe?

Never heard that before.
I've never really used the drop side tbh, I just wanted one that was.
I guess if you left the side down baby could fall/climb out? Not sure

We have a drop side cot, though the catches on it are very strong and we've had no problems yet, I remember reading something about them being unsafe though I can't remember why! We'd already bought it before I read it!

Our cot is a hand me down that is a good 6 years old and has been used by 2 LOs before our baby. It has a drop side. We don't actually use the dropside but OH reckons the mechanism is not great and could probably fall down if enough weight was put on it. After reading all the recent stuff about dropside cots it does make me uneasy. I couldn't see anything wrong with the side when I checked, and asked OH again and he said he thinks it is actually OK and just seemed like a funny mechanism when he put it together.

I need a dropside cot cos I'm so small I won't be able to reach Erin, lol.

I never leave her in it with the side down though

Oh really? I knew I'd read something about them being unsafe and couldn't remember what. As I've just found a lovely dropside cotbed that I want to buy I thought I should ask haha!

Thanks hun, good to know!

I have a nice old crib I got from a friend which has been through at least 2 kids previous to mine. The drop side is done by using two fixed metal guide bars. It doesn't pull out and away like the dangerous ones do. It is also made with metal parts and not the cheap plastic ones that have been known to fail. So, yes, I think my drop side crib is very safe.

It may just be American cribs? I don't know but here's the recall list: https://www.csmonitor.com/Business/new-economy/2010/0624/Crib-recall-What-to-do-if-yours-is-on-the-list

They are no longer being made here in the U.S. I had one with my first 2 and I loved it. The front side went up and down on metal bars. I wish I still had it; it was made by Simmons.

I think they're safe, hospital cots are drop side which says to me they're safe iykwim? I wish I'd bought a drop side cot. My back is done in from leaning over Daisy's!

I have to have one, no way I could reach Thomas without it! I am only 4'10". I;m short enough to fit the height restriction on a carseat I was looking at the other day, lol.

Mine seems quite safe, to drop the side you must first lift it, then press in the bottom with your leg, then sort of yank it down.

I think the danger issue was that in a lot of cots/cribs, dropping the side down created a large gap between the mattress and the side.
