I've thought long and hard about writing this post because I don't want to be seen to be encouraging the use of sunbeds, and I'm obviously not a doctor so I can't say 100% that it would work, but I'm sure it's made a difference where I'm concerned.
My TTC journey started with a mc in June 2008. We hadn't been trying for a baby and I only knew I was pregnant when it was to late and I was miscarrying. OH and I decided to start TTC properly and I went to the doctors. She told me to try for 6 months and as I had PCOS she would help me after this time if I hadn't conceived. Nothing happened and I started on Clomid 50mgs in April 2009. On round 3 I got caught, but sadly had a further miscarriage in July 2009. We decided to have a break from TTC and book a holiday for November, and start the Clomid again on our return.
After we came back in November, I had what I thought was a chemical pregnancy, never confirmed with a BFP but I knew myself that something wasn't right that month. I started my Clomid at the end of November and did another 3 rounds. No joy. Went back to my GP and she said that she could give me another 3 months at 100mg, along with Metformin. Off I went to collect my prescription and waited for my period to start so that I could start them. Except it never came......I had conceived once again all on my own!
So....what has this got to do with sunbeds???? I read up on how some (not all) women with PCOS have a vitamin D deficiency and that in some cases all it took for a woman to conceive was to put that deficiency right. Sunlight, whether from a natural source or from a sunbed makes the body produce vitamin D. I'd has my suspicions that this was my problem after the 1st miscarriage, as I had been on the sunbeds then, and hadn't been taking any fertility drugs. When I had my CP I'd been abroad lying in the sun, but had had no fertility drugs. This time, I thought I would actively try the sunbeds as a way to help me TTC and it seems to have worked! Again with no Clomid.
I don't feel that this can all be a coincidence??
Like I said I thought long and hard about posting this, I don't want anyone to think that I'm trivialising this in any way (I've been through hell myself), but I felt that if it could just help one person here then it would be worthwhile.
I hope this info helps someone, I'd be really interested to hear from anyone who tries it, just please remember to tan safely if you do!! If anyone wants to PM me about this or reply here please feel free
