do you still have af if you don't ovulate on clomid?

Hi ladies, was just wondering if anybody knows if you have a period or not if you have taken clomid but do not ovulate? The reason I'm asking is I'm on my 3rd round of clomid and haven't seen a positive opk yet, only been using them for the last 2 months. I've been getting my periods on either cd28 or 29 so they come on time, does that mean I did ovulate? Thanks in advance for any answers x

As far as I'm aware, regardless of if you're on any meds or not, having your period doesn't mean you've ovulated, but if you've ovulated you'll definitely have your period (or get pregnant, one or the other!).

So unfortunately just because you've had AF doesn't mean you definitely ovulated.

Probably best to ask the doctor who prescribed the Clomid if they can monitor your response to the Clomid?

When I have been on clomid and didnt ovulate I have had to take provera to bring on af.

Thanks for both your replies. I can't talk to the doctor that prescribed me the clomid because he prescribed it me about 2 years ago when I was ttc my daughter. He gave me 6 cycles worth and I fell pregnant after 2 so still had 4 left. Thought I'd save them for baby number 2 lol. If I wanted to see him again I'd be put on a massive waiting list, when I've used the 4 rounds I had left I shall go and ask to be refered back to him. Mommyagain, you might have more of an idea, do you think that you won't get af if you don't ovulate or do you think that only happens depending on the person? Like do you think some people will get af even if they didn't ovulate? Clomids worked for me in the past but I didn't use opks so don't know if it worked every month.

AF doesn't mean you've ovulated nor does it give any indication of how well you have ovulated.

You can ovulate with small follicles (not as good as decent sized ones). Also even if you ovulate with good sized follicles, it doesn't mean you corpus luteum is producing enough progesterone. I had follicle tracking one month with really good follicles, but my progesterone levels were still low. I have since been put on HCG injections to help support the corpus luteum in progesterone production. Plus UK GP's will tell you above 30 shows ovulation (progesterone day21 test), however, good progesterone levels should be much higher than this. My most recent was 64.3 (with meds), this I'm told by my fs is within the correct range (he looks for 60-100 for day 21 progesterone).

All AF shows is that you have produced enough estrogen to buildup a lining x

Ohhhh it all sounds very complicated! I'd love to know what mine levels are, I've only ever had 2 day 21 bloodtests but I never got told the results of them. I don't know what they would be now I've had a child, don't know if having a baby can change your hormone levels in the future. I had an operation to remove endo 2 and a half years ago and they had to put everything back in its correct position due to endo being severe and making my ovaries stick to the sides of my womb etc, I don't know if being pregnant and having your womb expand can knock everything out of place again! X

Haven't got a clue. Our bodies have a mind of their own. I get my bloods done monthly so my meds can be changed accordingly, atm I have found the correct balance . Good luck xx

I get AF every month now (never used to) but I still never ovulate.

Even when I was on clomid and got my AF afterwards, I still didn't ovulate. AF is a bitch, all around. You get her when you don't want her, and still when she comes she can be misleading

The one time I ovulated on clomid I got af by myself, when I dont ovulate I have to take provera to induce a bleed.

I have heard of people getting their af and not ovulating though. Maybe use opk's and see if you get a surge? or even book in with your practise nurse for day 21 bloods and just blag it that the dr sent u (done that before! lol)

Lily7 I wouldn't dare do that lol knowing my luck they would send for the doctor! I've used opks but I'm not using them properly I don't think because I've used em for 2 months now and haven't got a positive yet I started testing cd14 this month so think I started to late. I think ill take another one later on today and if its not positive yet (I'm on cd20) I'm not going to use them anymore I'd rather not know if I ovulated or not than have the dissapointment of knowing I didn't x

awk dinky, I hope you are ovulating, keep bd'ing to keep yourself covered, if you dont have any luck this cycle maybe you should go to your doc and just tell him you are ttc again and be honest with what you have done, then when they decide to help you they will skip the whole clomid bit (I am hoping it wont go that far though and you get your bfp) x

Hey Dinkey, just wondering how you got on, has your AF shown yet? I am in the same boat as you - 3rd month and first 2 were fine has bloods done and scans and everything looked good! This month nothing!! It's really strange - I'm on CD37 now and for the past 2 months have had 31 day cycles with a 13 day lutel phase! Very odd... but I'm thinking might have o'd yesterday so waiting to see if I get a BBT rise.... Let me know how your getting on... :0)

Hey i am still waiting for af! I normally have 28 day cycles on clomid but im on cd32 now. You sound similar to me! I did get positive opks on cd23 and 24 so i think i ovulated on cd25 but that still not normal for me i normally ovulate around cd16. Its strange how bodys work! So im expecting af around next tuesday. I keep taking hpt but bfn's as expected yet i cant help myself! Let me know how your getting on! X
