Iv been having really bad palpitations and getting irratable iv been on fluoxetine for 5years he took me off it as soon as i found out i was pregnant but all the doctors at hospital and my midwife said its safe to take? I went to my docs to ask if i could have it but he said no? Im really struggling without it my heart feels gittery and like its stopping and pounding :( does anyone else take it? X

Did he say why he didn't want you to take it? I know there are some reported side effects(most are rare), but typically the benefits out weight the risks.
I don't take it myself any longer, as I hate taking meds during pregnancy unless I have to. But I'm able to deal with my issues without, mostly.
You may try talking to your doctor again and see what the issue is with you taking it. Explain that you are having trouble coping off the meds. If he still doesn't want to, you might consider a second opinion. Moms mental health is just as important as physical health.

I was doing well up until now really didnt want to be back on it either but i dont think i can cope with them any longer especially if they get worse. He said hed rather me stay off them and hes suggested i see someone but iv been there before and it never helped but im willing to give it a go just gonna take forever for someone to get round to seeing me. Just dont know what to do :( x

It would probably be good to see someone about it. Hopefully you can get in quickly. A maybe you can ask your doctor about DHA/EPA(Omega-3 Fish oil). Higher doses have been shown to help with mood disorders, and it's great for a growing baby :)

Did he take you off totally or did he wean you off? It could be withdraws. Is it mainly the heart skipping? My doc wanted to put me on prozac and said I would need to be weaned off at the end of second tri. I never started taking it. Im having a really hard time with depression right now.

I'm on Prozac? My doctor saw no issues with me taking it although I'm getting a second opinion as she didn't seem to have a lot of info about Prozac during pregnancy.

So far I think all is well! My baby is healthy so that's all I care about :)

I would get a different doctor. There's no need to suffer. This happened to me and I switched doctors.

The pharmacists told me she took it while pregnant and her baby was perfect.

No he didnt wean me off it just told me to stop taking it, the docs at hospital was shocked at that and surprised how well id been coping up until now. Id say iv been off it around 12 weeks so i dont think its withdrawal as iv inly been getting symptoms recently. Iv had anxiety and depression since being a child iv been under psychiatric help my doc knows all this but still would rather me not have it x

Wow! With all the dangers of antenatal depression and all I would think doc would be more concerned. I read that alot of doc's dont take it seriously. I would definitely talk to him and make sure to bring up antenatal depression when you do. Im having trouble with it right now and its not fun. Its actually frightening.

Go and see your GP again! Fluoxetine is the safest anti depressant to take in pregnancy! It's not ideal as slightly increases risk of heart malformations but its safer than being anxious and at risk of harm.

If you are planning to breastfeed then would need switching at that point.

Sorry to hear your sufferin with it too its awful isnt it. Half the tome im not even excited to be pregnant i see it as makin me ill :( iv got a midwife app a week tomoz gonna try hold out until then and see what she says x

It is aweful!! I was super excited at first. And that went away. I am happy for a bit when I feel baby move. But I talked to a nurse today and she wants me to make an appt for a counselor so we will see how it goes. I have a late 20 week scan in the a.m. I am looking forward to know the gender.

Makes u feel guilty sum days :( aww least you got that to look forward to youll have to let me know how the counsellor goes. I had an early scan 2 week ago at 16 week cause um slim it was so clear they told me its a boy not sure how certain they can be x

I have been taking prozac since i was 17 years old, I'm now 32. I have continued to take it throughout all of my pregnancies and my children have all been absolutely fine. Any doctor or midwife I've had say the benefits outweigh the risks and with depression you are susceptible to postnatal depression so you really don't want to be without your medication when baby arrives unless you are sure that you could manage it without. Get a second opinion x

Does he not want you on anything? My doctor put me on Zoloft and said it was safe and the benefits definitely outweighed the minimal risks. His wife was on it will all his kids so I trust him. Would they maybe prescribe something else for you?
