That is great that they are sending you straight to a fertility specialist. After I was diagnosed with PCOS, I was sent to one right away too. I can tell you my experience, hopefully it will help. I had been TTC for about a year when I went to the regular OBGYN to see what was going on. He put me on 50 mg of clomid for 3 months and told me to come back at the end of the 3 months if I wasn't pregnant. I did not get pregnant on the clomid alone, but it did shorten my cycles and regulated them. When I went back at the end of the 3 months, they did an ultrasound, and that is when they realized that I have PCOS. Once I was diagnosed with PCOS, I was referred to a FS.
When I got to the FS, they 1st met with DH and I to explain what their normal course of treatment is for PCOS patients and answer any questions we had. They also laid out the tests that we would have to do before starting treatment. DH and I each needed to get bloodwork done. DH needed to have a semen analysis. On the next CD3 I had to go to have an ultrasound and bloodwork, and sometime between CD5 and CD10 I had to go for an HSG. It sounds like a lot of tests, but it gives them a complete picture of what problems exist and how they need to be treated.
Once the tests were completed, they told us what our course of treatment would be. Since DH was perfect and I did not have any issues other than PCOS and elevated prolactin (which meds easily control), they told us that we were good candidates for IUI. Once I got my period again after all the tests were complete, we started our 1st cycle of treatment.
I know what you mean about being antsy to get a better shot at getting pregnant. I was thrilled to to be sent to a FS, because I felt like I was finally making progress. Good luck with your appt.!
