My doctor wants me to cutback and basically stop gaining weight.. I've gained 28 lbs and I'm 26 weeks And four days. She's worried because I've gained a majority of that within the last month. I didn't gain much till 22ish weeks. I really don't know what to do. I'm such a picky eater and I'm always HUNGRY. Junk is the only appealing thing right now. I try to get daily proteins and fruits but jeez, this is hard. I'm feeling really down about myself, and don't think I should feel like I'm a fat cow while pregnant :(

I know its difficult, but try to remember your doctor is only concerned about the fast weight gain from a medical perspective. She is probably concerned about complications and such. You are not a fat cow. Pregnancy makes your body go nuts.

I still eat treats and naughty food, but try to also stay balanced with healthy foods and choices too.

:( your not a fat cow, your growing a beautiful baby. I say you can eat junkie food but in moderation, definitely limit it. I wouldn't go for that every snack or meal. What's your favorite junk food to eat lately, there's got to be healthy alternatives that are similar.

I'm really big into rice krispy treats! I'm really going to try my best to eat junk in moderation, and I'm trying to get more protien. I made a batch of hard boiled eggs, hopefully I can reach for one of those for a snack since they're loaded with protein :(

She's probably only saying that as a pre-cautionary and yes, if you gain it too fast it can indicate health problems specific to pregnancy (I've heard pre-eclampsia is one of them, not saying at all that's what you have, just an example). Potential health issues aside, try not to worry and let it bother you! I've gained 30 lbs already and most of it was put on fast as well. around my 17 week check-up I had learnt I had gained 7 lbs in one month! So it's definitely not un-heard of. You'll do great, chin up!

My doctor did say it can be a pre cursor to pre eclampsia, so she told me symptoms to watch out for. I've just had such a bad pregnancy and I'm kind of feeling sorry for myself. :( thanks ladies

A significant weight gain in a short amount of time can be a sign that something isn't quite right. Pre-e is a biggie, especially for first time moms as is gestational diabetes and a sudden weight gain can be sign for either. That being said, I would try not to worry overmuch as I've gained twice what I gained with both my kids total and I still have a month to go but my dr isn't worried. I'm dealing with swollen feet and weight gains of up to 10lb in 4 weeks (yikes!) but my dr isn't worried as I'm not showing sugars or protein in my urine so he feels it's just swelling due to heat and being slightly dehydrated. I'd do what you are doing-keeping healthy snacks around and go for those first. I keep sliced watermelon, cut up cantaloupe, and carrot sticks in the fridge for when I'm hungry between meals and I'm trying to serve a salad at least once a day. Despite this, I'm still pushing 40lb weight gain (ugh) but as I said, the dr wasn't worried and I just talked to him today.

My pre-eclampsia, eclampsia & hellp. Was never caused by to much weight gain at all. My pre-e caused Me to gain weight due to water retention. I went upta size 22. From a size 8. Over night almost. So no amount of food caused that. I would say more G/D more so. My weight gain was my liver & kidneys failing so Made me swell. GL hun xx

I gained 65 pounds with my first pregnancy! My doctor never told me anything about it, but I really wish he would have. After I had the baby i lost 45 of those pounds, but could never lose the last 20. Now I am pregnant again and have been eating fruit a lot and not gaining so much weight.

I know its hard, but trust me, the more you gain, the harder it is to get off! Easier said then done though. My first pregnancy i only craved chili dogs and french fries. hahaha. So i gained a lot.

Salt means you need minerals and Sweets are carbs. I'm 26 wks 2 days and i went from pre pregnancy 115 about and Im now over 150. I was doing the same thing- its fine to indulge but try to limit those craving and turn it into something else. I eat juicy nectarines, or mangos now to satisfy my sweet tooth and sometimes just ice pops. no snack cakes anymore for me - I cut it completely. Those green smoothies are the BEST for sweet cravings by "Naked" or "Bothouse" or "Odwella" brands - i love them. I have a really bad sweet tooth. Trust me those drinks are filling and so satisfying! Try organic Agave or stevia which are natural sweeteners - you can use them in or on anything. Cereal, coffee, tea, fruits, oatmeal etc.
if I want salty foods I actually make a small meal or a sandwich. I use whole wheat products as well. Peanut butter and Jelly - but i use natural or organic peanut butter with 100% whole wheat bread. If I can do it-TRUST ME You can do! We are both in the same position! And also - increase your water intake- which may sound funny based on what I'm about to say- some of it may be water weight as well.

You are not alone. At my last appt I had gained 18lbs so far and she wants me to gain a total of 25-30lbs for the whole pregnancy. I had a sugar test done at 6 weeks b/c diabetes runs in my family and passed that with flying colors. My urine has always been clear of sugar and protein and my doctor is still making an issue of it. So now she wants me to gain only 1/2lbs a week!!! I'm fine with her being medically concerned for the baby, but I did not get that vibe. It felt more like her micromanaging my weight in general. I'm also trying to be more conscious about my fruits and veggies. We can only do our best. Hang in there.

My midwife hasn't weighed me since my first appt which I thought was odd. I've put on at least a stone perhaps a stone and a half? And I'm 22 weeks and she weighed me at probably 5 weeks at just under 8 stone.

I'm scared I'm gonna pile it on quick at this point but I'm trying to eat a bit healthier if I can from now on. Less takeaways anyway!

Bright eyes - we don't get weighed in the UK unless we are at risk of or have GD, or there is another medical reason (heart issue, hg, suspected pre-e etc.) Occasionally some mws will weigh you if your BMI is high but I'm not aware of anyone who has a normal range / slightly underweight bmi being weighed after the NT scan. Last time Id put on a pound at 16wks and my oh mentioned it at my mw appt as he was concerned. She reassured us that they don't worry about weight for the majority as it causes more stress than anything else. This time I've gained much more, but because I started of 7lbs lighter, I'm roughly the same weight I was at this point last time. This time im in the healthy weight gain range, whereas last time I was always a few pounds below. My son weighed 8lbs at 39wks, so made no difference to his size.

Try to tell yourself its your OB just looking out for the baby..but I admit, I would be hurt too. Try drinking a large glass of water before every meal and snack, it may help control portion sizes.

I get weighed because of the research trial I'm on. The nurse on that commented about my gain, but i know i gained too much and am intending on shouting it all post birth. I didn't lose it after first as figured no point losing it to then out it on with another, however didn't anticipate 4 year gap so probably should have lost it between.
I intend to do it for me this time though rather because I should. I don't want to create body image issue with my children by me disliking who I am. I'm hoping to hit the exercise hard post pregnancy (and post christmas!) and really push myself

Just try to adjust what you can and make efforts where possible but you're not going to suddenly start losing so just be aware and perhaps if eating lots of 'bad' reduce the overall amount through the day. I tend to snack all evening but if I go to bed I won't so I'm doing early bedtimes as a way of reducing the snacking

If it's not a medical issue causing the gain, try alternatives to the junk foods. Here's some I like:

Protein Mug Cake:
1/2 scoop whey protein powder
1 Tbsp cocao powder
Stevia or truvia - to taste/experiment
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tbsp applesauce
1 egg white

Mix dry ingredients together in a mug then add wet ngredients. Mix till batter forms. Microwave 1 minute. If overflows, stop microwave and press down then continue. Flip over onto plate and voila! Chocolate cake. 80 calories and 15 grams protein and it's so delicious.

Coconut Pops:
3 cups unsweetened Silk almond milk
3/4 cup coconut flakes
2tbsp-1/4 cup Stevia or Truvia
1/4 tsp Vanilla

Mix together, put in ice molds, freeze. Around 60 calories each.

I gained like 13 lbs. in a month with my 2nd and my dr fussed at me. but then I didn't gain much for the next 2 months so it all evened out. I wouldn't worry too much. Just try to reach for healthier snacks. I eat a lot of fresh fruit and I always try to eat a salad before my meal when we go out so I'm not STARVING when my entree comes. I have been able to make 2 meals usually out of 1 if we go out to eat. I haven't gained much weight this time around but I'm quite a bit heavier than I was with my other 2. So I have tried to be cautious of what I eat. If you can try and eat fruit/veggies for snacks then you'll be full and not want as much junk. I'm trying to limit my starch...but it's hard!! I know it's no fun to have your weight gain commented on...but don't let it make you feel down. Your dr is only thinking of it in a medical way.
