I had an Indian take-away last night and it gave me awful diarrheah.

Has anyone else experienced this? I went to the doctors because i was worried about food poisoning and he told me to keep hydrated n keep an eye on my temperature. Sometimes i feel like doctors just dont care because im only 21weeks  But im worried about my baby.

Im never eating take-away food again during this pregnancy.

i thought when you get food poisoning you throw up too,
but i think everything is going to be fine,, just drink enough water like your doctor said, if you doctor was worried i am sure he would have done something about it ,
goodluck

Funnily enough i had a indian take away saturday night and within 30 seconds of eatin it had to run to the loo :( i do have IBS tho so cud have been a coincidence but am stayin away from curry's now lol. Every other take away ive been fine with lol

It was a madras too, so quite hot. That probably didnt help...

Haha im a wimp and went for a malaya, like a korma but with pineapple lol

as a GP myself, I'm sure your doctor does care, it's just there's very little that can be done with diarrhoea from dodgy food - it happens as your body is trying to expel the bugs you've eaten so stopping the diarrhoea with tablets does more harm than good - unfortunately you have to let it run it's course. if it goes on for more than a few days pop back and you may have to give them a sample.
baby shouldn't be affected by this - are you still getting movements etc? if you're worried you can ring your midwife who can listen into the baby's heartbeat.
hope you feel better soon xx

Don't worry! I had a terrible stomach bug at about 17 weeks and threw up all night (and the other end...nice, blurgh). I was really worried because my temp went up to 38.9 and I rang the doctor and he said to make sure I rest, drink lots of fluids and do what it takes to get my temperature down - so don't be scared to take paracetamol. it's totally safe and is more important to keep you cool than anything. my bug only lasted 24 hours and docs also said baby would be fine. I've since had a couple of diarroeah episodes after takeaways or too spicy food too, but What to Expect When You're Expecting has a section on it - and says baby won't be affected at all, even if you're not feeling that great! so don't worry and just play it safe for a few days to let your body readjust. I'm not giving up on the curries I have to admit as I live on them! good luck! xx

hey hunni, food poisoning doesnt usually affect ur baby, the only thing that will affect little un from it is dehydration or ur core temp rising so sure everything shud b fine. ive been worried last few days as have had this sickness bug but have assured its just the side effects that cud be damaging if u dont try to keep hydrated, not the illness itself. also if its not sickness too cud it just be ur body reacting different to the hot food. i know ive had a bad tummy from eating hot curry whilst pregnant but doc said it most likely wasnt food poisoning but just my body's reaction to the spice as it could vary in pregnancy xxx

Thanks everyone, i feel better now :) Unfortunately my midwife wasnt at the surgery today so couldnt pop in for her to do a quick ante natal check on me, i've felt baby move though so hopefully she is okay, i dont think she likes curry though!

This pregnancy is making me a nervous wreck xx

Aww I feel exactly the same, worry about EVERYTHING, think sometimes we can know too much.
Glad she's moving about, that's just as reliable as hearing the heartbeat at this stage.
x
