Dread examinations?

I was induced with my daughter and they gave me so many stretch and sweeps and put that gel up there and then eventually poped my waters with that hook thing, at the time I handled it fine.

But now I'm dreading it! The thought of them putting their fingers in me makes me feel physically sick, how can I get over this?

I don't think it's pleasant for anyone, I've always found exams ok compared to what I build it up to be in my head!! I had loads of stuff happening down there with my first, but second think I only got checked twice before it was time to push, it was a quick labour though. Hope you get less exams this time xxxx

It's the unknown that's the worst. Just take a deep breath. Unfortunately it's gotta be done.

You don't have to have them done if you don't want to.

I don't mind exams but after developing chorioamniotis last time and all that came with it, I'll be doing everything to minimise risk of any kind of infection this time round - which means minimal intervention and examinations both before and during labour.

You don't have to have them done, if you'd prefer not to. They don't bother me, but I'm a Midwife, so it's usually me doing them! x

I used to be fine with all that stuff but since having a manual placenta removal with dd I hate it.. I get so worked up. After having dd I had dodgy cells so had to have a colposcopy as well which made things worse. I'm having a sweep on Thursday :-( Once I'm in labour I'll let them check me initially as they won't admit you until you're 4 cm here but after that I'm not going to have checks unless absolutely necessary ... I knew with dd when to push despite the midwife saying no so gonna follow my body again.

I'm usually fine with pelvic exams, but atm things are so swollen and alien-feeling down there that I'm dreading my first appt in the UK (where they might want to do one).

My usual nurse for pap-smears had a photo she used to pin to the ceiling just for those appointments... unfortunately, a brief (and somewhat terrifying) Google search has not come up with the image. It was black and white, of a pile of sausages. And then you looked a bit closer and thought "since when do sausages have piercings?" ....
