I found out last tuesday that Im pregnant again following a mmc in january (found out at 12 week scan that baby had died at 10 weeks) so Im not 4 weeks and 4 days. I ve been under a consultant since the miscarriage and he wants to scan me tomorrow at only 4 +5! The reason being he wants to give me hcg shots on a weekly basis for the first trimester. Does anyone have any experience of having a scan so very early? Or of having the hcg shots? Im so worried that if nothing at all can be seen tomorrow im going to have a terrible time worrying till I can. Thanks for any experiences anyone can offer. x

No sorry - but sounds like your got a wonderful consultant - good luck with the scan and shots - you will probably worry even if you do see something - not sure what you should expect at 4+5 but am sure someone here will :)

Hi there,

I too had an MMC before this pregnancy so it has been a quite stressful ride.

My Doc gave me progesterone shots on a weekly basis up to 12 weeks to support placenta development (from what i've seen on the internet this is quite common, but the jury is out on whether it actually helps). Not sure if this is similar to HCG shots tho....

The doc sent me for a scan first also to check bubba was there as progesterone shots can prevent your body 'expelling' (SORRY! hideous word) the baby if you miscarry (i.e. it can help an MC turn into an MMC). My scan was at 6 weeks tho, and there was already a heartbeat then. It was pretty magical to see/hear it.

Not sure about a 4wk scan as i have no experience there, but probably the doc is just checking that it is not ectopic etc before starting the shots.

I doubt any of this is particularly relevant to you, sorry. Keep us posted, let us know how the scan goes and what the doc says.

Hello just married. I have had two scans in the 4 week area because of my ectopics. Dont be suprised if they cant see anything. They may only see the start of a sac. That is how it was with one of mine and the other they didnt see anything. Whatever just try not to worry.

Thanks girls I think he just wants to check it's not ectopic before he starts the shots. From what I've read there similar to the pro shots you've had how have you got on with them?? My consultant is brill as he looked after me after my d and c in jan then always said once I was pg again to call him straight away which I was glad about as my doctors are so nonchalent! I am nervous! I'd be happy to see a sac it would reassure me for at least a few days ha ha! X

Hiya,

The progesterone shots were a walk in the park! I looked on other forums about them (seem to be more popular in US than UK) and i read all types of horror stories about how much the jab hurt for WEEKS afterwards and how crap it made people feel. Well, the jabs were no problem at all (1 of them hurt a tiny bit and i bled a little spot on my pants but nothing else) and i had pretty standard morning sickness (which i was VERY pleased to have!! Any symptom is a good symptom in my book :winkwink:).

Oddly enough, do you know what the best bit about weekly shots is?? You get to see your Doc EVERY WEEK and ask them all types of 'Is this normal?' questions. :happydance: Such as when I started having occasional nosebleeds (which are apparently a sign of rising BP) so my Doc checked me out straight away and all was fine. It would have felt too small and random for me to actually call a Doc about but i was so relieved when i could just mention it in passing as she was injecting me in the bum!
