I'm getting a Mirena put in tomorrow and was told by some coworkers that it hurts pretty bad to have it put in??? Also what should I expect afterward? Any cramping, discomfort, etc? Anyone have a Mirena and like/dislike it for any reason?
It can be painful. It involves A LOTof bad ccramping....but should go away within a few minutes. Nothing like a pap....a pap is nothing compared to getting an IUD. of course if u have sharp pains that continues after get it checked out. I did...and it unfortunately punctured my uterus! Only happens to 1 in 1000. Of course it happened to me! Not trying to scare u off...just to be aware!
For me it was just a bit uncomfortable. I didn't have any pain relief and went straight back to work. I was a bit crampy the rest of the day.you can take some pain killers before you go though just in case.
It is great though. I had a few weeks of annoying spotting then no periods and mine were awful.
It's not a delightful experience, but i found it no worse than a smear. I was told to take some ibuprofen before by my GP. And then I was crampy for about 48hrs. -x-
Mine was a little uncomfortable with some pretty painful cramps for the rest of the day; not unbearable though. I definitely expected it to be worse than it actually was.
It's not any worse than having a smear. Just make sure you have an Ibuprofen and hour before and keep some handy for a couple of days as sometimes you can experience a period like pain for a couple of days. It doesn't suit everyone but that's the same with any contraceptive.
I didn't find it painful at all- more tolerable than a pap test, but still get the dreaded speculum (worst part of it IMO) and you feel a bit of a pinch.
How'd it go? Hopefully much better than my experience... I won't share for fear of scaring others! lol. But I'm certainly the exception, not the rule I will say- after all I went through during and the day of/after... it's not been an issue AT ALL since it was put in. I have no periods, no cramping, no issues. That part is lovely. I won't get it again in 5yrs... haha... but for now it's great
