Hi, my DH went for his sperm test last Thursday, he called the GP on Monday and the receptionist said the results were in but the doc hadn't had time to look at them and would call him back. Still no call today so I phoned and asked what was the problem and they said that a doc would look at them and he was to phone back later in day. He called back and was told that the doctor had seem them but didn't have time to speak to him and that he was to make an appt which is for next Thursday!!!

He is obviously quite upset and is fearing the worst, I am trying to reassure him but also worried but trying to remain positive for his sake. He is sure that if things were ok they would have told him over phone. Any advice please? xx

Not necessarily ... my GP did the same.

Good or bad they normally ask to see you to discuss them.

I would really try not to worry, it sounds pretty normal

Hey do not worry. It may mean its good news but need to discuss it thoroughly.Ie mobility is blah blah or sperm count is blah blah.We went through this last year and it was good news but the doc felt he had to explain results properly. All the best xx

Heya hun,
have you had results over the phone from your doc before? I'm wondering if it's there policy to not give results over the phone?

Can you ring up again tomorrow maybe and see if you can get a cancellation - waiting can be such a pain in the ass!

Although the nurse gave results of my DH SA over the phone (they weren't v good at all), we weren't sure what to do next, and she didnt explain what it all meant. DH gave another SA 3 months later and they'd improved (they weren't 'normal' but they were heading that way). I wish i could say 'it'll be ok' cos i understand where you're coming from, but it sounds good that your doc wants to see him, so he sounds supportive. I think having the doctor explain in detail what the result actually mean can sometimes help put anxiety at bay (although the wait doesn't help)

I hope all goes well, good luck x x x x x

when my DH did his test they gave him the results when he went in for them, just printed them off, no explanation etc, we had to take them to my GP who was referring us to get any form of explanation, how crap is that?!

Try not to worry hun (easier said than done!) - i think it's a sign of a good GP who will sit you down and discuss everything - much better than a receptionist reading through your private notes and giving you your results off the cuff!!x

It may just be standard practice that they don't give results over the phone, thats what happens with our consultant.

Good luck

same happened to my partner but in the mean time they did send him a copy of the results.

Thanks for all your comments, it will be a long wait until next Thurs!!

Our GP delivered the bad news over the phone. :dohh:

Hopefully all is well and you get some positive news next week.
