Does your baby face out in the pushchair?

Sophie is getting too long for her pram - as in, she is the length of it lol.

I want to change it to face forward, but think she's too young for it. However, she's too big for the pram

What can I do?

And if facing forward is no good when newborn, why do they make 'from birth' pushchairs that do?

There are some studies that show that forward facing pushchairs are less good for social interaction with the parent and a child can become over stimulated. However there isn't a lot of evidence on that and there's no evidence at all that forward facing is at all physically unsuitable for even a newborn it's more to do with whether the seat fully reclines and is adequately padded and supportive than the direction in which it faces. I have always had forward facing pushchairs marked as suitable from birth and used them from a few weeks old. I have looked into buying a parent facing one but any decent parent facing ones that are lightweight and streamlined enough are out of my price range. Using the carrycot or car seat on the chassis of a ff one isn't suitable for me either because they add quite a few kg to the overall weight of the pushchair and due to previous back problems that runs a real risk of me doing myself a mischief if I have to lift the pushchair up and down stairs, up and down kerbs or on and off the bus (we have low floor buses here but the driver rarely obliges in lowering it). Up until a few months ago most of the time when we went out with the pushchair my son would fall asleep and stay asleep for most of the time we were out anyway xx

We use a Quinny Zapp Xtra. Fits our maxi cosi carseat so we used that for 2 months but the main seat was from birth, can lay right back and my baby loved it from 2months. It is forward facing or rear...we are starting to use forward when at places like zoos so he can look out. It is rubbish for carrying things but I love it for anything else.

I have 2. I forward facing only pram for little walks from the house so he has a view and a Quinny buzz that stays in my car for out and about cos I prefer to be able to see and talk to him when I'm shopping, on the beach, etc. instead of constantly stopping to poke my head round and check on him in a busy street when it's too hot or too long a trip for wearing him.

We have a Graco pram which you can take out the place baby lies and have it either forward or backward facing, and you can also have it lying down or upright. So lots of different ways and suitable from birth. My husband always has LO facing forwards so she can see stuff. But I have her backwards-facing and on an incline so that she can still see what's going on around her but is facing me, as I think it's important for interaction

Parent facing is useful for when they are older and have separation anxiety. My daughter is 6 months old at the mo and if she can't see me or her dad she screams and cries. If our stroller was only forward facing, we wouldn't be able to go anywhere without it being traumatic for both of us! The mamas and papas sola is supposed to be great, suitable from birth and not too expensive. Maybe consider something like that?

I'm on to pushchair number 4 (funnily - the double "sister" buggy of the one you linked that just came today).

First one the pram part was great (apart from not being able to get in the shopping basket in pram mode) - but when she got too big (and nosey) for that, I found that I really really missed having her facing me... cue a second-hand iCandy, which I loved and did parent or outward facing... and an umbrella fold stroller for leaving in the car as she got older (which I don't mind as much since I can peek over the top and see her in it anyway). The little stroller is only ever really for a quick dog walk around the park or nipping out around Tesco - any "long" days out and we use the better buggy (it's nicer to push).

Now bought the double buggy for when the new baby comes - main reason I went for what I did is I can at least parent face the upper seat (the ones that parent faced both seats and weren't side-by-side which wouldn't fit out of our house were either an arm and a leg priced, or so heavy and long there's no way I could have pushed them) and peek down on the bottom seat which is nearest me to see that baby as well.

I have a baby jogger city mini which is forward facing and I have used it from birth. Never had a problem with it. I just put him in the sling if he was being fussy and wanted to be facing me.

I have a silver cross 3d and my DD has been forward facing for a week due to the fact he loves looking at the world around him and he was getting uncomfortably big in the carrycot ....however I wouldn't entertain him being forward facing unless it fully reclined and had head huggers...padding and cosy toes ...luckily mine does xx

I have a britax b smart and the seat unit does turn round to parent face as well as forward face.

My LO has been in the main seat unit since 10 weeks old, he's now coming up to six months and he mostly faces me but of we are out anywhere interesting, such as the aquarium then I face him out.

I absolutely love mine and wouldn't change it for the world, I used it from birth but had the soft carry cot attachment

Nowadays I mostly wear DS and DD walks. When DD was little she went mostly in the pushchair. I have the Mothercare Spin so I can forward face or parent face easily whenever I want. I hardly ever have the pushchair forward facing unless there is something LO wanted to look at. One of the main reasons my double ended up not getting used is its double forward facing and I'm just not comfortable having my children facing forwards. If they are facing away from you then you can't really talk to them and interact with them whatever age they are.

I have. Bugaboo cameleon and I love it, she is still in he carrycot pram bit and has got loads of room left to grow but once she gets in the pushchair seat of it she will be facing me for as long as I can! I like to be able to see her when we are out. Xxx

US strollers are a bit different.. I haven't seen any that forward face unless I use the infant car seat attachment, which he's too big for. I do carry him often, but he doesn't mind forward facing in the stroller. He's been in the stroller (forward facing) since he was about 2 months old. The seat reclines all the way back.

He usually just falls asleep. Occasionally he'll look around, but doesn't seem too bothered.

Nope. Lucie faces mummy! We have a Quinny Buzz (with 4 wheels) so can be forward or rear facing. I'm not sure i'll ever want her facing away from me, haha. When i carry her she faces me in the Caboo but prefers to face out in the Babybjorn. She's a nosey madam! xx

We had our daughter forward facing since 4 months. We recently got a stroller with the option to parent face as well but found she gets antsy staring at us the whole time and probably wonders why we don't just pick her up. I think she'd rather see the world.

My lo was 4 months when he went forward facing...not through choice, I took his own silver cross 3d to toys r us foe repair and they would only loan me a forward facing one....roo loves it though


And seeing his permanent smile brightens up a lot of old ladies days!

Nooo. I'm all about the parent facing. Spent out extra to get a double that allowed for this with Mops whie Fin faces out. I cried when I had to switch him round. He was maybe 10 months lol xx
