I've just had a thought, theres no birth plan written up! Not that I'm overly bothered but it only just sprang to mind! My midwife went through a birth plan with me with my 2 older kids about what I want or not want during the birth, my concerns ect.. I'm sure it was done at 36/37 weeks. Theres been no mention of her doing one this time around, and maybe times have changed and you do it yourself now?

With my first I wrote my own and the midwife put it at the front of my notes.
With my second I didn't even have a birth plan, lol

I've always been asked by my midwife to lets just get the birth plan done, but shes not asked this time so I'm guessing you must do your own now? I wasnt bothered too much as every birth plan I've had has never happened anyway! :haha:

Mine didn't even ask! I assumed it was because he was my 3rd baby, but perhaps it's not a thing anymore. She didn't even mention anything about the birth if I'm honest!

Ive never had one, i just express my wishes during labour

This is what got me thinking! Theres been no mention of one when in the past there has been mention of one, and I went along with it and had her write me up a plan just because! Nothing this time at all! Good thing I don't really want a birth plan this time they never go to plan anyway:haha:

I wrote mine up. Midwife never mentioned it so just did it myself.

It all went to shit anyway. Wanted water birth but both pools were out of order - nobody told us til 48 hours into hospital stay even though we'd mentioned it loads. So, really glad labour never started

However I had written in there how I wanted to avoid drip induction and skip to c-section if pessary/gel failed - and although midwives tried to talk me out of this, consultant waved it through. Having that in writing as part of a birth plan definitely helped.

I’ve just done mine today at 37 weeks, although there’s not much in it lol.
Just went over breastfeeding and asking me questions about giving baby vitamin injection etc questions about placenta delayed cord clamping.

Are you having any signs of baby making an appearance ?
Bubs is back to back so I’m dreading labour haha! Xx

That's why I can't be arsed for one! It never goes to plan! I'm happy to just go with the flow and tell them in labour what I want, epidural being one of them

Oh I forgot about the vitamin k injection, I guess all that is things I can tell them there and then isn't it? Don't want delayed cord clamping either, what I want is pretty straight forward I think! Just to see how it goes :haha:

Oh my God back to back really??? I hope it all goes well for you! Never experienced a B2B labour but I've heard it bloody hurts! But labour does anyway :haha: just get an epidural if it's too bad! And nope, no sign of the little man! Still the same amount of pain I've been in for weeks and weeks! In starting to think he will never be here lol!

Sorry to crash the party ladies :haha: but what's delayed clamping?

It's where they wait for the cord to stop pulsing to cut it.

Here, unless you have a midwife/doula the OB doesnt bring up a birth plan. I had one with dd2 and they didnt really care about it. I'm having one this time in case I transfer from my homebirth

Sorry to crash the party ladies :haha: but what's delayed clamping?

They keep baby attached to the cord and placenta for longer after the birth! Not sure why I've only heard of this recently myself :haha:

I didnt have delayed cord clamping mentioned to me until id given birth already.. it wasn't given to me as an option.. they just sort of did it and I went with the flow lol.. so if you would prefer they didnt do it, definitely mention it/have it in your notes.

My midwife hadn't mentioned a birth plan officially but for my last few appointments she's asked me questions about the birth and noted it in my chart.

Delayed cord clamping is done because the blood in the placenta is fetal blood and if you delay cutting the cord it allows more of the blood to get back to the baby to improve oxygen levels. I think it's common practice with preemies but not all doctors will do it with full term deliveries unless requested.

I saw a birth matters midwife hon but I think it was because I was so anxious about the birth and was denied a section and I was just totally terrified of doing it vaginally because of my past 2 traumatic birth experiences.

With my others I wrote birth plans myself but I didnt bother this time because labour doesn't always go to plan so I just left it.
