Hi ladies,

When we make our tea we usually use jars of food eg Dolmio for spaghetti bowl etc will this be safe for baby at 6 months or no way?

Also what about reduced salt and reduced sugar tinned food like baked beans and tomato soup?

Many thanks

While some pasta sauces are quite high in salt; others aren't so bad and usually the amount baby will be having with their serving will be so small its not worth worrying about too much. Some of the reduced salt/sugar foods are still quite high in salt and sugar but again baby will be having a very small serving of them xx

i asked my HV this and she said no, but there is no way i have the time or money to buy it all fresh, so im stuck with what to do toox

Tbh, I woudln't but that's just me.
We use a really simple tomato sauce that can be used for anything. Sag bol, lasagne, just pasta sauce, from BLW cookbook. And it's sooo quick and easy and tesco own ingredients works just as fine.

2 tbsp olive oil
1 onion
some garlic
tin tomatoes or passata
2 tbsp of tomato puree
some herbs (anything you have in, basil etc)
pepper.

That's it (obv you can add whatever you like in it) and we make extra and freeze it and use for almost everything. Or you can google some tomato based sauces and you'll get loads.

i make it myself its sooo easy to do, i make it up in a batch & freeze what i dont use..
its from Anabel Karmel book..

1tsp brown sugar (optional)
1tsp olive oil,
2tsp tomato puree or tomato sauce,
1 small onion/chalott (sp?),
1 garlic clove,
400g of tomatos - you can use chopped or whole ones (whole tomatos need to be squashed with back of spoon when in pan) (normally 1 tin of chopped tomatos is 400g)

dice the onion & crush the garlic in a frying pan with the oil, stir it for 2 mins to soften up,
add all the other ingredients, stir & bring to boil.
once boiling stir for 1 min & then leave to boil for 15 mins or until Sauce is at thickness you like.
Done.

that would make enough for us to have 1 meal of spag bowl.

i normally make up 4 lots in a big saucepan. & i tend to add a few mixed herbs etc.

I make my own sauce like Purple Haze, I also add grated carrot to it, lovely! As summer rain says, the dolmio and many other ready made sauces can be rather high in salt etc, plus it's much cheaper making your own! xx

I always make my own sauce u get more for ur moneyso u can freeze it ect
I haven't made Corey anything but veg yet tho

Thanks ladies, I'll defo make my own......sounds easy.

I've just received my AK books yesterday and I made my LO some chicken with carrot, onion, potatoes, tin tomatoes and it was lovely......even my hubs wanted some lol....xxx

I make a tomato sauce with a tin of tomatoes, half a low salt stock cube and some mixed herbs! tastes yum and is sugar free too. X

I usually make my own too but don't stress about ready-made stuff once in a while-I don't like really salty stuff anyway so when I have checked the salt content of stuff we usually buy, per adult serving they tend to contain less salt than a slice of bread and of course a baby would be having maybe a quarter or less of a sauce or soup xx
