sorry im sure this has been done before but i could do with some advice re buying a cosleeping/bedside crib or cot.

i had a moses basket with our son and he was a big baby and by 12 weeks be hated being in the moses basket and had to go into his cot - which upset me as he was in the next room as no room for the large cot in our room.

this time round i want to try a bedside cot/crib that i can reach over and breastfeed and that the baby will stay in for at least 6m ideally more. we live in a 2 bed house so would like to keep baby in with us as long as poss before they share a room with my son (we will be moving when baby about 9m old)

i like the look of the Arms Reach cosleeping crib (the large one not the mini) - has anyone used this? was it big enough, did it last a long time?

or anyone use another bedside crib that was large enough to last past 6m?- we have a cot so we are loathed to buy another cot like the large mothercare one and i think it would be just a bit too big for our room.

any other tips?

i dont know if it could be done with a smaller cot, but the cotbed we have has a level thats the same level as our bed, so i just took a side off and put it along the bed.

Thanks Arcanegirl - so is the cot stable without one of the sides? going to have to get my husband to get ours from the loft and build it to see - am sure he will love that!

A cotbed definatley is, i cant say for sure on a smaller one though

thanks - will make hubby get the old one down and see if its stable and if we can squeeze it into our room then - would rather that than spend £250 on something that may only last a few months

I had an arms reach and LOVED it. It was hands down my best baby buy- made my life soooooooo much easier. I resold it for almost exactly what I paid for it, too. For the first 4 or 5 months of Ks life we went to sleep holding hands :cloud9:

He outgrew it length wise (he's big) by 6 months so I sold it and got a Mama's and Papa's 'Close and Cosy' bedside cot. It's wonderful too- nice looking, big, easily adjusted etc and I loved it. For a while I remember thinking that we should have just got that in the first place since it was much bigger and would last longer. BUT within a month of getting it, K learned to roll/pull himself up and within 2 weeks of that it didn't matter how many pillows I blocked the cot/bed with, he'd still roll all over it and so I couldn't leave him asleep :dohh: I ended up having to put the side up anyway!

So my point is, yes I think an Arms Reach is worth it but just bear in mind their short lifespan, I will definitely be buying another for baby no 2.

i use an arms reach cosleeper and love it. we are 4 months into it and i can't think of anything better for us.

I have a Cossato bedside crib and it's like a full sized cot bed so should last ages https://www.mypushchair.co.uk/babyshop/tag/cosatto-drop-side-cot

Our cot wasn't stable when we took the side off so OH screwed a piece of wood along the length of it, it worked just fine:thumbup:

or you can use this: https://www.onestepahead.com/catalo...Id=85182&categoryId=85213&subCategoryId=86196

I have an arm's reach mini. It works well for during the day as a bassinet but to be honest it's not working for us very much at night. There is a part that still separates you from the baby (you can sort of see it in the picture jetters uploaded, so you can't really breastfeed while the baby is in it. She ends up in bed with us every night...

I'm going to post this link again, but it's such a good guide if your larger cot (with removable sides) doesn't fit just right. We just used a cot that the side came off. it was stable enough for me to more or less lie half in when needed. And we can use it as a toddler bed when the time comes. Good investment I think.

great guide, thanks. was just thinking today about getting a cosleeper cotbed thingy. we have a big cotbed in the nursery which I thought Id use for daytime naps etc but might get a smaller cot to attach to our bed
