I feel stupid posting this but Im confused I've been quite wary this pregnancy avoiding as many listeria possible products. My grandparents took my little brother, he's 12, and he bought me a krushem and I feel terrible I can't have it :( ive put it in the freezer for now but now I know it's there I want it :(

Would anyone else just have it? What "forbidden" things have you given into I this or previous pregnancies?

Hiya,

Why wouldn't you have a Krushem? Isnt that just a milkshake with ice from KFC..... I think you will be ok to have them hun.

They tell you to avoid things like Mr Whippy Ice Cream (from a van) because you can't bank on the hygeine of the vendor or the conditions they've been stored in.

I have eaten a few McFlurrys from McDonalds and I have been absolutley fine... :)

I have given into a few things while pregnant so far (Naughty I know!) I had a couple of pieces of feta, parma ham (although it was cooked with chicken so not sure if this counts). I had a single glass of champagne at a wedding and it wasn't even a full glass. Oh and I had prawns 2 days before I found out I was pregnant. And I quite regularly eat medium-rare steak and runny eggs!

x

Have the krushem.. i have them all the time! malteasers are the best!
as for mcflurries.. i have them aswell.. I used to work at mcds. left a week before i knew i was preg.. and i know the machines are cleaned very regularly..
they dont work if they havent been cleaned.. they switch off until theyre done.

i think people are a bit over cautious.. i got very drunk a few days before i found out (so when i was 4 weeks gone) because i believed i wasnt pregnant as first test came back negative.. apparently it was just too early as a few days later.. BFP!

i know people eating runny eggs etc.. i still eat ham etc as in the UK were not advised not to eat it!
Had a mouthful of my mates steak the other day, she couldnt eat it all and it looked gorgeous!! enjoy the krushem! lystira is very rare.. x

Eat it, you'll be fine! The machines in these sort of places are cleaned so regularly.

I had a fair amount of alcohol in the week before I got my BFP (I found out New Year's Day, so lots of Christmas and New Year celebrations!). Have also had the odd runny (fried) egg, and brie made with pasteurised milk (which is better than unpasteurised, but still a no-no supposedly). I also have the odd sip of wine or champagne from time to time.

Prawns are fine by the way, as long as they are cooked (pink in colour) there is no reason why you shouldn't eat them. I have eaten bucket loads!

I posted this yesterday about Listera - in response as to whether we could eat ham because of the risk of listeria. Hope you find it useful/informative. As PP said... Listeria is extremely rare.

:flower:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just to give you some facts about Listeria (the reason they suggest you avoid deli meats).

Lets put things in perspective..... In England & Wales, it is very rare and there are less than 200 cases per year. These are mainly associated with outbreaks linked to a single food source.

https://www.hpa.org.uk/Topics/Infecti...ports19832010/

There are nearly 60 million people in England and Wales (Go figure).

In comparison, there are between 50,000 - 60,000 cases of campylobacter (the main source of food poisioning - main cuplrit is chicken or meat that hasn't been cooked properly - think BBQ's & Takeaway Resturants)

https://www.hpa.org.uk/Topics/Infecti...a/campyDataEw/

You're far far more likely to get campylobacter than to ever get Listeria. It really is very rare. It is sensible to avoid cured meats (parma ham, salami etc) but straighforward ham, turkey or chicken is fine because - as i've already said - food hygeine regulations are so strict in the UK that they all have to be prepared in a certain way and pass strict guidlines to be on sale to the public.

Please don't worry about not eating cooked ham - it really is an extremely low risk food.

Thank you :) I know the chance of listeria is very rare :) I think I'll have it but let it freeze for a bit I like it like Ice cream will it be fine to eat if it's been frozen? I know freezing doesn't kill the bacteria but will it be safe to eat it?

listeriosis is rare.. but my honest answer to you? i wouldnt eat it. i'm paranoid. if you are too or if you think it will upset you that you did it if something happens (listeria related or not) then don't do it. thats why i wont do it.. i cheated last pregnancy.. it was NOT the cause of he death.. but i felt like an awful person for "tempting fate" <3 either way the choice is yours love.

I still eat lunch meat, sometimes I just heat it up in the microwave for like 10 seconds but I have ate some without heating it up

I "accidently" ate a delicious italian sandwich from Jimmy John's last week. The eating of the sandwich was not accidental, but it honestly didn't occur to me that I wasn't supposed to eat the deli meat until the following day. I felt guilty about it, but nothing happened. I certainly won't make a habit of it, but like the others have said, listeria is so rare!
