Don't want to be laughed at!

We found out on Sunday i'm having a baby boy!
But now this equals controversy over naming him. FOB and I don't agree on anything (we aren't together) but with girls names we just about managed to agree.
Boys names are a different story. All my names were too bizzaire for his taste. He said that nobody would employ him...and that we should call him a name, not a thing. Lol.
We have realllyyy diff tastes.
HIS fave names:
Louie, Alexander, Rory, Deano, Sebastian etc...
MINE:
Sage, Rain, Fox, Phoenix, Leo, River

And so we settled on Sebastian River Power (power=FOBs surname)

He likes the name Sebastian, named after that pompous boy from Cruel Intentions. Not sure I want my baby aspiring to that! But any name FOB really likes kinda makes me like it for some reason. But now i'm scared of peoples reactions. Its a weird name, and if you are like me, you won't help but think of a certain red lobster from a certain disney movie!

River I love though, even though he's urging me to reconsider!

So what do you think of the name? I don't want people to laugh at my little boy!

I really like Sebastian as a first name!
River sounds a bit odd just because it's combined with power, so I keep on thinking of something like, Pikachu river power GO!

i think river is an awesome name and noone would not employ him for having a child named that how ridiculous to even think that!if there has been a person named that before then you just say hes named after them..and there has!

I don't think it is silly at all. My husbands taste is a lot different to mine, he suggested thinks like Gandalph, Merlin, Lancelot etc - all names from Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings etc!!

We named our first Alexander because we both like Sex in the City and loved the name from that. Our 2nd son is called Sebastian. I too think of the crab from the little mermaid and in fact we actually bought him a cuddly one, which he had in his cot in the hospital!! We haven't managed to find a shortened version yet that we like as we don't like Seb very much. He really suits his name as he has a very strong personality. No one has thought it strange and in fact we get a lot of compliments. But names are such a personal thing. I found it best to keep your name choices between the 2 of you (other than on here of course) or the world and their wives will have an opinion. Good luck xx

Not too sure about River though. I like it for a Girls name. It's a nice idea but i don't think he will thank you for it when he's older x x x

In all honesty im with your FOB, in that i prefer more traditional names...but then growing up iv always had a secret envy for people with cool names....
i toyed with wanting to call my daughter (one day) Persephone lol but then i names my cat that instead
But back to topic - the name sounds good.

Yeah Power as a surname is soo fun haha. Theres so many cool things you can do with it, but have to be careful too! One of the girls names we had decided on was Tabitha Catherine....TABBY CAT POWER

His name is Ollie. But I like to call him Wally. Wally power!

So since nobody seems to think badly of Sebastian...I think i'll go for it! Haha it's MY name people are more funny about--just like FOB told me would be the case. Can anyone think of a cool middle name to go with Power? other than Max! xx

I think you'll have to be super careful choosing a modern name like that with such an unusual surname. It's not that I don't like your name choices, it's more that they don't really combine well with the surname. I do think of River as a girl's name though.

Rory and Leo would go well with Sebastian? x

I love sebastian, i have 2 friends called sebastian, 1 gets his shortened to Seb, the other doesnt but neither of them have been compared to the boy from cruel intentions or a lobster
