Hiya hun

I have the angel sounds one and a HiBebe one. The angel sounds is absolutely fab been hearing hb since 9 weeks and the HiBebe is crap!

I used gel at first now use vaseline as it lasts longer. I usually try and get the whooshing of the placenta first and bubs isnt far away...

I always start right above pubic bone and generally within 10 seconds hear it. I have an empty bladder some recommend a full bladder earlier on in PG but that dont work for me. I also lie flat on the bed.

Im 13 weeks and i hear it twice a day but have heard it since 9 weeks with the angel sounds.

The angel sounds cost me £30.00 or so quid on amazon with free delivery. It does work with headfones but thats good sometimes.

Hope this helps.

Aw this is fantastic - thansk for being so thorough..

Think i will invest in one then..

i assume you cannot mistake the sound of the HB?? its abv very fast, so will i reckognise it straight off?

A couple of other things- I also have the angelsounds from Amazon -

1) To start you need to use LOTS of gel
2) The baby has LOADS of places to hide so dont freak out if you cant hear it
3) I didnt hear mine until 15 weeks.
4) Again- start really low down - bikini line/pubic bone - the baby stays there for weeks
5) The ear phones need to be on full for me to hear it - its not that loud (really loud when the midwife used her professional one though)
6) If you hear a woooshing noise its the placenta
7) The Angelsounds says the hb should sound like a galloping horse - mine doesnt it sounds like a really fast beating noise
8) Oh and listen to your own HB first so you can get used to that sound and speed - there are pulse points either side of your bikini line and the beat you can hear then will be slower - thats your hb. My LO likes to stay in the middle so s/he is easy to find but at the start it took me a while to find it

I only listen when im feeling in the need for reasurance not everyday - I think also that you are only supposed to use them for a few minutes at a time - my LO likes to move so I only generally get to hear it for about 30 seconds before LO moves away.

HTH

Totally agree with that, the HiBebe is advertised as though its so much better and the angelsounds as though its cheap and may not work, but when i was pregnant i could only find it with angelsounds and not the HiBebe , so in answer to your questions

1. I recommend Angelsounds
2.You put gel(or water although i didn't try this) around your pubic bone area and slowly move the doppler around until you hear the heartbeat (sounds like galloping horses)
3.Theres no particular time for sure you'd find it, some midwives can't even find it at 15 weeks and i wouldn't recommend buying one before 12 weeks as it can cause more worry than anything. I'd recommend using it just after a scan so you can get used to it but don't worry if you don't find it.
4. Angelsounds is only around £25

Good luck x x x x x

Lastly ladies.. do you press down hard? or just softly across your skin?

Um, initally I pressed firmly but not hard but this week its not been necessary to do anything other than ghold it steadily but not press too much
