I'll be meeting with two potential doulas in the next few weeks, and realized that I have no idea what I should actually ask them about. It's been such an ordeal just finding these two, that it never occurred to me to think about the next steps yet! I am sure I have some basic questions I'll obviously want to ask them (to talk about why they choose to become a doula, their philosophy on birth, their own experiences with pregnancy and birth, about particular services they provide or training they've received, i.e. massage, aromatherapy, yoga, help with preparing a birth plan, postpartum work, etc.).
But I'm wondering if besides the obvious, what other questions ought I ask them? For those who have used a doula, what was the most important thing you found out about your doula before you selected her? Was there a question you wish you'd asked? For doulas, what's been the most insightful question you've been asked in an initial meeting?
