Aaaargh, what is with Dr Brown bottles and the leaking?!

We use SMA Staydown milk which says to use freshly boiled water, cool it under the tap then chill it in the fridge until you're ready to make the milk up.

Every time I put the water into the bottles, even when I don't screw the teat and cap on tightly (I've found screwing them tight makes it worse), about 40ml pours back out again...it's so annoying, plus I've scalded myself a few times :growlmad:

Then when we make a feed up and warm it in a jug of hot water, as soon as I go to test the temperature on my wrist, the milk pours out of the side!

Anyone else getting this or is it just me?!! It's honestly driving me mad, especially when Sophie's crying for a feed and I'm busy trying to get the milk to stop pouring out the side. It's not even as if I've heated it to be too hot - it's just at the temperature for her drinking.

We have only had this a couple of times. I found it worse when we heated the bottle up and then tighten the lid, now i wait until the bottle has cooled a bit before i tighten it back up. Mind you i have always made the bottles up in advance

It drives me mad too, and it only seems to be getting worse for me. At first I thought I hadn't put all the bits together right, but it happens every time. I'm thinking of changing back to tommee tippee.

Yep drives me mad too! as soon as i put bottle in a jug of boiling water milk leaks out, ive tried tightening the bottle lid, taking the bit out the middle helps a tiny bit but soo anoying, grrr lol

I loved the tommee tippee ones, but with the staydown milk, the scoops of it sit on top of the water rather than sinking in, and there's not enough space in the TT bottles :( If we could, I'd be thinking of changing back too! xx

same here .. drives me crazy!! when i go out with LO i put water in bottle and when i get it out about 1oz or sometime 2oz has gone and my bag is wet ... grrrrr x

have the same prob with about 3bottles all other 6 are fine. drives me crazy as i have milk drops all over the floors, glad i have off white tiles :haha:

It said somewhere on my instructions to undo by at least a half turn when warming.. The leaking is to do with the way the valve works. When the temp rises the pressure increases and the milk has to go somewhere!!

Do you loosen the lid when you heat the bottles? I used to have so many problems with them leaking and apparently its due to air expanding with heat and having nowhere to go so it pushes liquid throught the vent and out the sides (iykwim lol)

Now when I make Maddisons bottles I leave the lid loose until they've cooled then tighten them before they go in the fridge and then loosen the lid again when reheating and fx'd I haven't had any problems since

^ That's the trick.
I was sick and tired of my bottles leaking but since doing this, they don't x

When u heat the bottles u have to take out the air flo system first as this is what will cause the leaking!! I made this mistake and couldn't understand what I was doing wrong but the instructions do tell you to this and now they dont leak at all, hope this helps.

The instructions say not to screw the top on, I have them in front of me... Your not supposed to put it on at all not even if it's loose. I have never had any of mine leak :)
