Dr. Office Rant! UPDATE on page 2

OK, so I had a CVS test done on friday am and they said the results would go directly to my doctor in 24 hours, so I've been waiting all day for the call.

Finally decided to call myself and asked the front desk woman (a nurse, I assumed) about them. After asking me several times what kind of test it was (she obviously has ZERO IDEA what a cvs test is) she goes:

-oh yeah, I have it here, everything is normal
-So no trisomies or Down? everything is fine?
-yes
-how about the gender, am I having boy or girl?
-they can't tell you that until 20 weeks
-what do you mean? it's a chromosome test, they said I would get the gender with the results
(back and forth about what kind of test this was again and how they can't tell gender before 20 weeks until she says she will call me later, and I can't believe I'm educating this woman about the sh*t she should know if she works for an OB)

she calls later:
-I showed the results to the dr and she said everything is fine and you have to wait until 20 weeks to get gender
-does she understand I had a cvs test done?
-yeah, I showed her the results, they just couldn't tell if it was girl or boy
-but they look at the chromosomes! they know exactly what it is, this is a 100% accurate test, Can you fax me the results? I just don't think you're looking at the right thing!
...puts me on hold. 30 seconds later a different woman goes:
-hello? yeah, we haven't gotten the results of your test yet, only the sonogram part, so we'll call you when we get them.

WTF???????? I'm fuming! need to go for a walk now...

*HATE* incompetent people!!! The doctor should call their patients with results and not a person who just answers phone calls!!!

I agree. Im one of 'those' who immediately if I sense Im talking to someone who isn't all that competent will kindly ask that my doctor return my call when he is free. Im sorry you're going through this.

I agree, some of those ppl who answer the phones, I wonder if they're just one of the patients picking up! On one of my other pg's, the woman who answered the phone was looking for a bitch slap. I asked her if my results came back. I was waiting for the diabetes one I believe,..she checks, and says, yes, you're pregnant! I was shocked! I was approaching 3rd tri I told her, thanx for the info.

Actually, now that I look back it was kinda funny. I think she was totally embarrassed lol. At least the dr's are good! Cant expect everyone in the office to have a brain

Did you get your results yet??

Nuchal measurement is 2.1mm, just mentioned it in another thread. Won't have full results integrated with bloodwork until a week from now. Fingers crossed!

no results yet!!!!! I'm a nervous wreck.

called today and asked why it's taking so long, lady on the phone says the fax could be hidden in a pile of papers in the office (really?) and she's gonna call the lab to get them to fax it again.

called again a couple of hours later and she said the lab said they were going to fax it but haven't yet.

at this point the office is closed, so no results until tomorrow (if I'm lucky)

After calling the Dr. office MANY times and being told that they don't have the results yet and that it takes 2 weeks, I decided to call my genetic counselor.

She said she's faxed the results several times already!!! now I know I just can't trust that office

Anyway, she gave me the results and it's normal for Down's and Trisomies still have to wait for the full results 1 more week, but hopefully everything will be fine.

and... I'm having GIRL!!!!!

That's so awesome you finally found out! And good news to boot, that's really cool.

I found out today we're 1:5 for Downs so are having amnio on 1 Nov. I was scheduled for a midwife appt on that day so I called the doctor's office to reschedule, and I said to the lady on the phone 'can I leave a message for the midwife that the reason I had to cancel was because I am having amniocentesis on the 1st'. Well, imagine whatever word is the total opposite of amniocentesis (fluffernutter?) and that's what she repeated back to me. She had NO idea what I said to her.
