Drawers vs. Draws

Haven't read the whole thread but I spell it as drawer or drawers.

Prayer to me rhymes with hair. lol

Do you pronounce pear and pair differently then cause prayer sort of sounds like hair pair and pear to me. Gosh my head hurts :haha:

I think mines is all down to my West of Scotland/Glaswegian accent ... I hate how scummy I sound when I'm around people who aren't local!

Some slang also really gets to me - my oh once called "windows" "windaes" (pronounced like "windy" as in windy day with an s ...) aaaargh! And he called "snow" "snaw" to rhyme with thaw ... We had words.

And as for pp who says draw rhymes with door - I don't get how that's possible lol. I have tried but my mouth can't even form the word if that makes sense?

... At least I can say loch properly though :p seems to be the only word I can probounce correctly!

I'm west of scotland/glasgow too! :)

Scottish English is rhotic, meaning we pronounce R whereas English English speakers don't (non-rhotic) - that's why a lot of people will write it as 'draws' because they pronounce it like that. whereas us Scottish people are like draw-eRRRRs 😂

 I've caused a confusion. It's just because the OP said nothing else has a silent "er" :haha:

I keep looking at my bedroom drawers and thinking about correct pronunciation of said item, must stop coming back to this thread! Thanks to JessyG I am now saying "poark" out loud! I am saying it with a Scottish twang, sounds better than boring "pork" :haha:
