Dress for a wedding reception. help please

So me, my partner and our daughter was invited yesterday to a wedding reception for next Saturday! Which is one week today!

I have said can we wiggle out of it, and he got all stroppy with me and said no. I haven't really got any spare cash to buy a whole new outfit, plus daughters and a gift. I also don't really have the time to get one, as i work 7-7 5 days a week

so can someone suggest an outfit for me please. I am a size 14/16, but have a problem with my tummy area so baggy around there would be great, (trying to loose the weight from there but its not shifting and if i wear anything tight it will look like i am 6 months pregnant!), I also never wear dresses or skirts, as i don't like my legs, and i don't tan so I am as white as a ghost, but I dont mind something around about the knee area in length

I have no idea what clothes suit my shape and figure, so i dont know what to buy. My oh stupid suggestion was to wear jeans, and you dont want to know my reply to him!

I just had a very quick look on new look, and found this for £5, bargain!! You might not like it, everyone's taste is different and I know you said no dresses.....but how about a pair POF thick black tights with one? I hate my legs and they're stupidly white. Technically it'll be September so tights are fine I think!! Because this is elasticated under the bust it'll hide any belly you're worried about. Have a look at there stuff though, there's quite a lot of cheap dresses.

Or I just found this maxi skirt, I'm thinking match with with a plain black vest top (black hides anything!) and a chunky colourful necklace.

I dont mind a dress, as long as its sort of knee length, im more worried about my tummy, i just dont want to look 6 months pregnant

Ahh rubbish I forgot to check sizes, ill keep looking!! With a dress that's elasticated under the boobs your belly won't show, I'm a size 22 with a big belly and that's the only dress I can wear.

Omg that dress is beautiful. That's exactly the style I like too. I've just had a very quick look on asos and this is the closest I can find.

I'm not sure where else to look, being a 22 the shops I can go to are limited!! Warehouse maybe but they're not cheap. Ill have a think while I crack on with housework.

Tasha I'm so glad you got that peach polka dot dress and you like it I'm glad my love of searching for clothes helped someone lol.

I don't know what that style iof dress is though if anyone else does I'd like to know too, that's my fav style of dress. Actually I've got one that's cream with black polka dots that's a size 16, it's my 'if I ever lose weight if love to wear it again' dress!!

I did love it thank you for finding it Boomers. It is SO flattering. I hate my tummy as I told you, but there is a photo of me and the wind is blowing against me so it is the least flattering it could be against my tummy and it still looks great. I wish I kept all my if I ever lose weight clothes as now I have about three things to wear and zero winter clothes

Lol glad I helped those style dresses are all I have in my wardrobe!! With leggings and sandals in the summer, and leggings, boots and a chunky cardi in winter. I've kept all my old clothes, I've got a chest of drawers, plus all 4 drawers under my bed full of stuff, and I'm 99% sure ill never be a 16 again but I just can't give them up!
