Jacob has been on 8oz bottles for a while now..always drained most of them but now he has started to only take about 6oz from each bottle. Even in the morning after having nothing for 12 hrs he still only takes 6oz..is this normal to drop amounts?

Matthews doing the same at the minute

So far today he's only drank 5oz :( He has usually had two 7oz bottles or one 9oz and one 6oz

Maybe it's to do with teething?

8 oz bottles are quite a lot for 3month old - perhaps LO was going through a growth spurt recently and has now settled at 6oz??

I wouldnt worry. I was concerned when Anna dropped night feeds and she didnt make up for it by taking extra during the day. Spoke to HV and she was not concerned at all - she was still gaining weight steadily.:flower:

i am not sure why babies suddenly start drinking less but i agree 8ozs is a lot for a 3 month old baby. i met a girl at a toddler group and her 2 month old baby was on 8oz bottles, i couldn't believe it as normally it is far older babies drink that much. i met her again just last week (baby now 3.5 months old) and is barely taking 5oz bottles.

try not to worry over it. he will take in what he needs and as long as he is gaining weight and doesn't appear to be in pain i wouldn't worry.

Jacob is a big baby and has all ways had big bottles, been on 8oz since about 6 weeks..when he went through his last growth spurt he went from 6 8oz bottles (48oz) to over 58oz a day then came back down..so 8oz bottles are the norm for him..they say it should be 2.5xweight=ounces they are on..Jacob is 18lb 8oz which equates to a little over 45oz a day needed so 48 is about right for his size.
I suspect it is teething then as hes dribbling and chewing everything that he can get into his mouth..lol
