I was wondering if anybody else gets dry heaving. (I do actually throw up food as well) but mostly its dry heaving and then its like I feel better when air (gas) comes out, kind of like a burp. TMI I know. But I think its weird. Its like I'm throwing up air. Better then food though---dried fruit is now off my list of things to eat as of last night.

i was always "dry" heaving in my 1st and 2nd trimester i think i have only actually been sick 4 times!! I think its worse to heave and not be sick :( ive started to feel sick again the past few weeks hope the morning sickness isnt coming back :(

Yes this happens to me quite a lot!! OH hates it, it makes him want to heave too!!!

OH is usually sick and then dry heaves for a few mins. She's burping like mad too....i mean big huge ones i'd be proud of :-P

Yes, I've gotten them a few times. I don't know if anyone else makes this distinction, but I think there's a difference between gagging and dry heaving. I'll gag when I brush my teeth or sometimes if I smell something really bad, but it's more shallow than heaving, and mainly in my throat. I never feel like I'm going to throw up when I gag like that (but sometimes afterwards it upsets my stomach and can get me closer to actually feeling like I'm going to vomit.) Anyone else think there's a difference?

With dry heaving, it comes from the stomach and is more of a whole body act. I think I'm actually going to vomit, go through the motions, but nothing comes out. My dry heaves, anyway, are not triggered by smells or seemingly anything outside me, but rather come only when I'm super nauseous on the point of vomiting. This morning I was almost sure I was finally going to vomit and I dry heaved THREE TIMES, just seconds apart, but nothing came up. Very strange.

I may be a minority here, but I actually think vomiting is worse. I hate the taste and trauma (for me, anyway :-) of the food coming up the opposite way and past my taste buds. The only advantage I can see of vomiting as opposed to dry heaving is that you can feel better after when you actually vomit. Anyone else feel this way too?

My nurse said if you drink more water (which can be quite a feat when you're often nauseous) the incidences of heaving or vomiting should be less or go away. But you have to be careful, if you drink it too fast that can make you sick too. I dry heaved one other time too, and (similar to the first woman who posted), each time it followed a time (about a half hour later) where I ate a lot of fruit. I find fruit is okay in small doses, and when I eat it after eating a protein or fat, but I think maybe when you eat a lot of it at once (or eat dried fruit, which is high in sugar) or eat it on an empty stomach, your blood sugar goes up and then crashes, and when it crashes is when you feel nauseous.

Ooooh I've been just like that! Although I also seem to bring up mucus from my stomach (think it may be some kind of infection in my nose or something, seem to be overproducing). When it's all gone my stomach starts heaving, but it can last for up to five minutes (not that long when you're not heaving with no space to draw breath) and it wont stop till it's all gone =/

Guess it's my 'clear out' or something... blehhh.
x

yep me also. This usually happens when im brushing my teeth and sometimes if im lucky i get a bit up(tho its just acid). Then i feel better for a while

I get this too!!! Only recently though, which is a tad annoying. :dohh:

I dry-heave then do an almighty burp from right down deep in my stomach then feel better. Charming

i am dry heaving and gagging all day long! i've been having m/s and queasiness for about 8 days now, and i've only physically thrown up twice. and as much as i HATE throwing up. (i cry like a big baby when it happens)... i've noticed once i do throw up, i feel better for about an hour or two.. so i'm at the point where i'd love to throw up just to get it out. but it won't.
i'm dry heaving over smells, and over nothing. probably every half hour i think. i wish a burp would fix it!
although, i find i am gassy from both ends (LOL), but burping doesn't make me feel any better. :(

Oh, gaah, I wish I hadn't come in here now. I'm going away back to WTT and TTC LOL - you lot are scaring me!

*has chronic sickness phobia*

yuupo all the time constant retching at the slightest smell or anything makes me go RIIIBBBBIIIITT like a frog so OH has taken to calling me froggy, charmer lol x

yes. i get this too as well as normal sickness.

its jut kicked in the last week after I was complaining of having no symptoms they all seem to have come at once.

I don't actually throw up food very often, it's mostly dry heaving. That also has a lot to do with my little sister being a sympathetic puker. When we were kids, if she heard me throwing up - she would throw up and as a result I somehow figured out how not to....

messed up...

I have a lot of this going on....anyone else? and is anyone else in a constant state of nausea but NOT throwing up?

After posting a thread saying I had no symptoms, the nausea has now really got to me these past two days!! Feeling sick constantly and feel i cant eat anything, really put off my food at the minute. Havent actually been sick tho thanksgod, but do keep burping, and really bloated considering I havent eaten hardly anything. Oh the joys!! x

Yes I do the belly burp thing and then feel a heap better, I try to force a burp but it's not the same. Haven't been sick yet but close. Sweaty palms and watery mouth. Nice!!!

Well honestly it is great to know there are other women feeling as *awesome* and sexy as me

When i went through morning sickness in the first trimester , about 80% of the time it was always dry heaving.. and it usually happened if i havent ate anything yet..

This is my first time being pregnant. I really thought I was the only one who this was happening. I went into my 3rd trimester last week and every since I can't stop burping or dry heaving. It's the most aggravating thing. I just feel miserable all day. Does anyone have advice on how to get it to subside? Or was it just sometime you had to endure til it went away on its own.

I get this all the time (I actually get it when not pregnant too, but I have much worse gas because of the pregnancy so it's more constant). The gas causes pressure at the top of the stomach that makes it spasm. I don't feel nauseous, I've never been sick from it (although I have on rare occasions from this when not pregnant). If I can relieve the gas pressure, I feel better. I take Gas-x when it's really bad. Eating a small meal or snack also helps, I think it help move the gas along and gives the stomach something to do besides make gas.
