How soon can I give my baby a dummy? He has started settling while sucking my husbands little finger (random I know!!), so not sure about a dummy. I've been told not to use one for 4 weeks until breastfeedin gis established, but he is feeding lke a trooper. He does have times when he cries for me, then falls asleep as soon as he sucks my nipple.
What do you girls think? Am I making a rod for my own back, or should I just give it a go?

I gave max a dummy at 2 weeks old cause he didnt have the sucking relflex quite good , I found it didnt make a diff when breastfeeding

ditto....

i gave tommy a dummy when we got home from hosp, more of a comfort thing for him, he has it in th day but not of a night wierdly enough, didnt confuse him re breast feeding as far as i am concerned

I gave one to my bubs when he was 1month old...i was breastfeeding so i waited till breastfeeding was establised...i took it back off him after 1month though!! x

I gave her one too soon. I think it was about 4 or so days in. I was having a few minor problems getting established and I went for some advice from a LC. She advised me to ditch the dummy for a while until she was a bit more established. I did and it helped me and I have re-introduced it in the past few days and its working fine :)

Kayleigh had her first one day 2 in the hospital. However, after that first night she wouldn't take one again until like week 4 and my mum (nana) got her to take it.

Before that she refused anything except daddy's finger unless she was breastfeeding.

We've had more trouble with her not wanting her binky (what we call her dummy) than her having trouble with on the breast.

I think every baby is different and the only way to really tell is to try!!

Good luck!!! :)
