If your baby is born between 35 and 37 weeks is it kept in hospital until it is full term (ie 37 weeks) or is it allowed home if its a decent weight and feeding/ breathing ok? x

My friends baby was recently born at 32 weeks and she was out at 37 once she had put on abit of weight and her lungs were abit more matured etc
xx

My friend's baby was born at 36 weeks and baby was kept in for a week (and so was she) as they had boh got an infection. I jsut wonder what will happen if for example I was to go intolabour tomorrow? I would hate to be discharged and baby have to stay in for a week or 2. (this all stems from OH saying last night he wants baby here now and I said no, keep that wish silent for another 2 weeks) x

I haven't had a baby obviously as this is my first! But I think at that gestation they will make sure bubs is fine and breathing and feeding properly and then would be able to go home. They may spent some time in scbu, but not always x x

As long as they are a good weight and are feeding well and regulating their temp, breathing ok etc then yes usually you can take them home though I think they prefer you to stay in a bit longer then normal just to keep an eye on baby just incase. x

Oooooooh we are 1 day apart!! x

Connor was born at 37 weeks but because he had a low birth weight and wasnt feeding we had to stay in longer than normal but a week before me my friend had her baby at 36 weeks and she was home in a couple of days with baby as his weight was fine and was feeding fine aswell

So we are :D Though my baby will be born before his due date as I am being induced at around 39 weeks. x

They are sent home on an individual basis hun as no babies are the same. It depends if they are feeding well, putting on weight etc but it all depends x

Depends on a lot of things. Some go home if they are decent weight and holding their own, some have to wait till they are bigger, and it also depends on the hospital. Some full term babies don't always get to go home with mommy either. You just never know.

HELLO you!!! I asked your friend to text my love for you both. Bless him xx

i had my 1st at 33weeks and he was in hospital for 2 weeks, just until he could maintain his temp and feed properly.
Also its a total myth about them having to weigh over 5pounds before they let them come home aslong as theyre progressing in the right direction and obviously there arent any other major set backs a baby born after 35weeks would tend to do pretty well and be home in no time :)

i think it just varies, My first was born at 36wks, never spent any extra hospital time or nursery time, he was in the room with us the entire time and went home 2 days later with me. he was 6lbs 8oz

His cousin also born at 36wks spent 2 weeks in the NICU before getting to come home. I also had a friend who's baby was term and didn't get to come home til almost a week later

My DD was born at 35+6 and was a good weight and in no need of extra care. We went home a few days later because I had a section. So I think it depends on the baby really, so it's hard to say what would happen x x x x
