I'm having murders between my GP and my midwife getting an early scan, and I've taken the day off work tomorrow to try and sort it out. Basically, GP is saying that I need an early scan 1) because of previous ectopic and 2) because we don't know how far gone I am and we want to make sure JB is ok. M/W is saying that they wouldn't be able to see anything at this stage - now I know this is an absolutely CROCK! SO ANGRY! :hissy: :hissy: :hissy:

I spoke to the ultrasound dept and they said they'd be happy to do a scan at this stage if I can take them paperwork from GP, and so I'm going to ask him to do the forms for me and take them up there tomorrow. I was wondering though, can they do a tummy scan at this stage, or will it have to be an internal vaginal scan? Does anyone know? :help:

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I'm so angry with the midwives. They don't want to know you in my area until you're over 12 weeks preggers, and if JBs in the wrong place, then I'll end up with another ruptured fallopian tube. I don't think he/she is, but you'd think they'd be more sympathetic.
:hissy::hissy::hissy::hissy:

I had a belly one at 7 weeks, but then a week later I had an internal.. Depends totally on your beans position :)

I can understand how you'd want reassurance after an ectopic, it's just sad that the MW isn't being very accomodating about it :(
I would say they'll do and internal scan, as had to have about 5 up til 7 weeks, and then they had to really push down to get a tummy scan just after.
Good Luck, I hope everything is ok. Keep us posted :)

I hope you get it sorted hun they are so frustrating sometimes! To us it is sooo important to want to know that everything is fine especially if you had an ectopic previously but to them they don't really see the urgency! I kept phoning up my hospital to see if my GP had sent a letter referring me to have scan and it took him a week and a half! thanks matey! Thankfully the ladies at ante natal section of hospital are really considerate and sorted it out for me either that or they got bored of hearing from me

let us know if you get it sorted hun xxx

Thanks ladies. I guess I'll have to just wait and see. I was worried about having an internal scan, but if that's what they need to do then I guess I'll have to go with it. Are they safe???

yeah they are absolutely fine, little uncomfortable but not painful at all.
I had an internal at 6+5 and saw tiny bean and heartbeat.
Good luck

I had an internal scan in December last year, and that pregnancy all ended in tears, so I'm a little bit wary. This pregnancy does feel different though, so fx it's all ok.

This early on I think they'll probably end up doing an internal scan. I know when I went in for my 13 week scan one of the assistants told me to take my bottoms off because she thought I'd have to do an internal  but when the ultrasound tech came in she asked me how far along I was and when I told her she said there was on reason for an internal, that they only have to do those before 11 weeks. Good luck with your scan :hugs: I'm glad your GP is going to get you in for one.

Sorry you're having a mare with the MW honey. :hugs:

I had an internal one at just under 5 weeks to check for ectopic and it was fine. I'm going back on monday for my follow up.

i've just been told that they'll prob try on ur tummy 1st then if they don't get a clear pic then they well do internal!

Thats what they did with me. They told me I needed a full bladder and so I drank LOADS of water to the point of being uncomfortable, thinking that I'd get a better pic and when they tried to do the one on my tummy all they could see was my bladder..... So they got me to have a wee and they did an internal one and we could see the gestational sac and the yolk sac.

Hi -
Sorry you're not having much joy with the MW. I have been in a similar position. I havn't actually had an ectopic before, but I have endometriosis and have had it in my tubes, which makes me an "at risk" of ectopic.
My GP has been great - He has wanted to hold off for aslong as possible for the scan as he said the further along you are the more the scan can tell you. I have had period like pains, which he was not worried about.
He made the decision to send me for HCG blood tests over a few days. If the hormone levels increase correctly, then you can almost rule out ectopic.(mine went from 2100 to 7998 in 3 days!!)
With these levels it has given us another week or more if possible before they give me a scan. he has left the decision for a scan up to me- but he is more than happy that it is not ectopic, but ubderstands my worry!- could you maybe do the blood tests of you can't get a scan?
Also - I haven't been appointed a MW yet - my GP is my port of call.
Hope you get the news you long for!
