Hi all,

Had our appointment yest with Mr al taher at the bowthorpe clinic.


He went through. the questionnaire and then suggested i had some additional tests there and then rather than us coming back again.


I was very impressed. Anyone else local going through this?


I would have preferred to be put forward for IUI but they dont do this now...

We have been TTC for 19 months. Compared to the average couple where 95% pregnant in 2 yrs it would take us 20 probability wisr.

We are both 32.

hi annie hope.
i am not in east anglia i am in kent but although disappointing that u havent had a straight iui referral at least they did extra tests straight away. some ppl i have seen on here didnt have such a smooth and effective first appt.
i have my first appt on monday and although i am nervous as hell ur comments r encouraging and i hope i have just as an effective appt as u have experienced i hope u get any treatment and support you need soon

Hi Gemini, Yes I was well impressed with them. Mine won't do IUI he said that the government have recently provided a report to say that this should not be offered due to the very low success rate. I wanted IUI as I felt it was more natural :-? if that's possible!

Hope your appt goes really well, look forward to hearing how u got on and what they offered you. How long you been TTC? xx

thanks for the info on iui i wasnt aware of this so slightly misunderstood your comment. i understand what you mean regarding it being more natural. but hopefully u will conceive before ivf becomes their preferred route.

my appointment went really well and the dr was great especially since i got caught in traffic and was half hour late. i have been referred for two sets of blood tests and a hsg with a follow up appointment in january. we have been ttc with the help of a donor for just over 3 years

Hi Gemini,

I do hope so, but it works out that compared to "normal couples" it would take us 20 years....

That was a relief that they still met with you, bet you were stressed sitting in traffic waiting, knowing you wanted to get to your appointment.

I don't know what an HSG is...

I can't do any of my blood tests until I have my period again, hopefully it will never arrive!

Is this egg or sperm donors?

yeh fxd that is never arrives.

i can do my bloods on any cycle i want as long as i do it between now + my nxt fs appt as long as done on the rite days.

a hsg stands for Hysterosalpingography basically dye is inserted into through my cervix into my uterus + while it travels to my ovaries they take x rays in order to assess whether my tubes are blocked or scarred etc. it a very quick procedure i think and is quite common during fertility testing so u may be asked to do one at some stage.

we have been using a sperm donor for ttc + we known there is no problem with the donors swimmers so it must b me

Hi anniehope, we recently saw Mr Al-Taher and he sent us to Lynn Fertility Centre to the female fertility nurse for these checks. I'm confused why he chose to check you internally 'there and then'? Did you happen to notice his personal number plate on his Silver Mercedes '121 GYN'? We are weary of his honourability.
