Ok, so this article is a year old but I missed it, just came across it whilst googling something else. Did anyone else see this? Knew I should've waited to get pregnant ;)

Interesting to see that mothers on low-income can already apply for £500, I wonder if this is at all advertised?

Sound good...i theory. I agree with the article though that nutition needs are before 29 weeks too and there doesnt seem to be any monitoring of where the money will be spent.
I knew about the Healthy start vouchers for people on benefits/low income.

The £500, is that no the Sure Start Maternity Grant??

The £500 is the SureStart grant. I am sure these things must be being promoted. You can find out about all the benefits available from HMRC or DirectGov and presumably there will be info in the packs you receive as a new mum if not before.
 
I am entitled to the sure start one but i probably wont be pregnant when that other one comes into play.
