I am feeding my daughter on hipp organic formula. She is 6 days old and according to the box, she should be having 90ml at a time. However I got told my midwife that when she finishes a bottle, I should up this to the next stage. She is completely finishing the 90ml bottle and will be hungry again an hour later so I upped this to the 120ml, which she polished right off.
If I go up another stage, she will be on 150ml. This according to the box, is what a 2 month old should be getting.

She does throw up a lot, not just the usual baby sick but projectile vomit after every feed. I'm not sure if she is needing to eat this amount because she is loosing so much in sick, or whether she is eating too much and so her stomach can't handle it.
I'm not sure what I'm meant to do. I don't want her going hungry but it's like her appetite is too big for her stomach or something

Hmm. I don't think that is normal at all. Usually forceful vomiting is something you should tell your doctor or midwife about because it could be a sign of something more serious and she could be dehydrated and/or not getting enough to eat because it all comes out again. Does she seem otherwise well and happy? Hydrated? Lots of wet and dirty nappies? Make sure you mention it to your midwife just in case it is a problem that needs attention! Sorry I can't be more helpful!

ETA: oh just to add, I don't know a single baby who has ever taken what the box said they should. Just worth noting! That chart is a load of rubbish.

Firstly. Babies of that age should be fed on demand don't go by what is says on the pack. When she has finished a feed give her a dummy to finish that sucking urge if she is still crying and screaming for more then give her more. If she settles on the dummy then that's good. Another thing to look at could be the milk is not agreeing with her. Also is she bringing up her wind? I had to change the bottles I was using as they where making my son throw up at every feed because they where making him take in to much air so I changed to the dr brown bottles and have been using infacol before every feed. Maybe try a few of these things. If your really concerned then you should see your gp as you don't want baby becoming dehydrated! She may have reflux as well so best to get her seen.

Ignore the packs! My LO was on 5oz by 2 weeks old!
Does she have reflux? It could also be that the formula you're using just doesn't agree with her!

yup i had the same problem, seemed like my little girl just wanted to eat n eat so i was giving her a bottle, she screamed for more, made her another bottle and projectile vomit everywhere! ignore the packs! and whatever the midwife tells u, only u will know wat ur baby needs....try her on 90 or 120ml then give her a dummy afterwards- i didnt really want to give her one this early but it seemed to work a trick...the projectile vomiting stopped and after a few trys she liked having the dummy to suck on, and now she rarely uses it now her stomach is getting into the swing of things!

Sounds like overeating to me. Definitely see you GP about it as projectile vomiting can be caused by a number of things. My sons turned out to be reflux .

xx

I agree that you don't need to go by the pack, my DD eats much more than the pack says and she's only a month old.

However, projectile vomiting is not good. Usually baby's do that because their tummies are full and so the extra has to come back out.

The question is why she is overfeeding, if that's what she is doing. She may have reflux. My DD gets it every now and then. When she does, she gets really grabby with the bottle, and the screams in pain while it is in her mouth, as the reflux is going on.

Not all baby's scream with reflux though, so you may find that it's silent reflux. Worth getting it checked out with her doctor.

This happened to my son. He has reflux so he can only tolerate a certain amount of formula at a time.
