Hello everyone,

i am new here (my first post :flower:) im 20 weeks pregnant with my second child. we had out anomoly scan at 19 weeks and sonographer detected what appeared to be echogenic bowel syndrome, week later was pretty much confimed by a consultant.

down syndrome has been pretty much ruled out as no markers flagged up on scan and i was considered lowe risk in my screening. My husband and i have just been tested to see if we are carriers of custic fibrosis (no family histoy on either sides as far as we can tell) we are not to concerned about this yet.

however anothere outcome of echogenic bowel syndrome can be that baby doesnt grow in womb properly and his measurements go from 18 weeks-20 weeks this apparently is still in the safe zone for time being, but im concerned the growth will slow or stop.

Has anyone ever had a baby with echogenic bowel syndrome before and what was your outcome?? would love to hear stories good and bad. we are not worrying yet however i dont really understand if its as seriouss as it seems or if theese are more worst case scenarios...

look forward to hearing from some of you

I'm waiting on my follow-up ultrasound. They found two masses, calcifications around the stomach, and said it could be many things. Improper growth or cystic fibrosis both came up. We weren't offered testing for cystic fibrosis yet, but neither of us have family history of it.

My follow-up ultrasound is Thursday (I've had to wait 6 weeks since my 20 week) and like one doc said hopefully everything will be cleared up. I've been pretty worried though, this is our first and has made the experience very stressful for this reason. I've posted about this too, and I got a couple responses from women on here that said their baby was born just fine without complications, so I'm hoping to just add to their stories.

Best of Luck.

goodness you have had to wait 6 weeks for follow up scan :0 that must seem like a life time....

do you know why you havent been offered to see if your carriers of cystic fibrosis? i would have thought that would have been first thing they did...

i hope all goes wel for yoou an it is stressful for first pregnancy, as if pregnancy isnt stressful enough without adding potential complications

They said these usually go away and that's why we had to wait (to give them time to clear). If they're persistent on Thursday then I will be sent to a specialist and they will do all the testing. 6 weeks is a lifetime. I keep getting depressed worrying about what we'll see, but the wait is almost over. There's been nothing for me to do while I wait but try to stay calm and keep doing what I'm doing (going to work). Though, I wonder if all my stress has translated into eating. LOL I hadn't gained a single pound up to that scan, and since then I've gained 10. Maybe I'll be able to cut back on the eating after Thursday, here's hoping as I don't want another lecture from the doctor for putting on 8lbs in 1 month.
