Hi everyone,
I had my 19 week scan on wednesday and everything was fine until she picked up a white area (bright as bone) on the bowel and a choroid plexus cyst on the brain. The lady got me an appointment with a consultant at the hospital first thing the following morning. me and my partner was thinking everything could be wrong due to them not explaining anything to us about our girl.
We spent thursday morning in the hospital, they told us it was called echogenic bowel and could be caused by a number of things - baby could have got a little infection or could have swallowed some blood, both of which are pretty harmless. or it could be more serious - cystic fibrosis or a chromosome abnormality like downs syndrome. the doctor said the choriod plexus cyst is a normal finding on the fetuses and should clear up in a couple of weeks.
Me and My partner both had to give blood tests so they could check us for cystic fibrosis and any viral infections. we was offered an invasing test but we turned down as it can cause miscarriage, we get our results within the next week or so.
has anyone else had this? im just wondering how common it is. were both feeling really worried and scared so im wondering if many other women have had this but then gone on to have perfectly healthy babies? it might be alot more common than i think.
