Hi everyone,
I had my 19 week scan on wednesday and everything was fine until she picked up a white area (bright as bone) on the bowel and a choroid plexus cyst on the brain. The lady got me an appointment with a consultant at the hospital first thing the following morning. me and my partner was thinking everything could be wrong due to them not explaining anything to us about our girl.

We spent thursday morning in the hospital, they told us it was called echogenic bowel and could be caused by a number of things - baby could have got a little infection or could have swallowed some blood, both of which are pretty harmless. or it could be more serious - cystic fibrosis or a chromosome abnormality like downs syndrome. the doctor said the choriod plexus cyst is a normal finding on the fetuses and should clear up in a couple of weeks.

Me and My partner both had to give blood tests so they could check us for cystic fibrosis and any viral infections. we was offered an invasing test but we turned down as it can cause miscarriage, we get our results within the next week or so.

has anyone else had this? i’m just wondering how common it is. we’re both feeling really worried and scared so i’m wondering if many other women have had this but then gone on to have perfectly healthy babies? it might be alot more common than i think.

Hi - sorry to hear you are having such a stressful time. I carried a sick baby not knowing what we would face after birth and it was so tough. I wish you all the strength you need to get through your pregnancy and meet your lo.

Mine was born needing a lot of surgery and ge has life long problems and disabilities but from the moment we met he was perfect to me in everyway and it was worth the long painful wait.

I hope it all turns out well for you. Cf is just the start of a different journey than you expected but it is no less joyous! xx

I just got out of the hospital after a 10 day stay I went in because my fluids was low and now my fluids is even lower but I feel they had given up on my baby and are expect me to deliver a still born, I have had several scans and on Monday I had an MRI, they told me the baby fluilds are less than 1 and I am only 30 weeks, I was also told low fluid will harm my baby growth and could cause the baby to crush the cord, but if the baby is delivered early the chances of survivally are slim, I don't know what to do if the baby stays inside it is in danger and if I deliver early it is in danger, they also told me the baby kidneys are not functioning properly and that is the cause for the low fluid, but the heart beat is strong and I can feel the baby move, can I demand a early delivery so the baby at least has a chance, or will I be forced to carry a baby to term only to deliver a still born, if this goes on any longer I think I am going to lose my mind, please please help me just tell me the truth what is wrong with my baby.

Honey - you need to post that on it's own thread so people can see it and help.

I am not a doctor and I don't know all the facts but I know this - if you are not ready to give up on your baby and your instincts tell you something - listen to them. They told me me a load if crap about my son but his heart was strong and his kicks were firm. I never gave up and he made it.

The doctors should be able to tell you which is the safest option. If he does have poorly kidneys can they help if he is born so early?
