I know I'm being over the top here, but what are the symptoms of ectopic pregnancies? I'm really worreid this is what is happening to me. Last Thursday (about a week early), I had spotting which got more heavy than usual and I would say my period started last Saturday. It wasn't as heavy as usual, and sorry for TMI but it didn't smell the same. Not that my periods smell but they do have that strange creamy smell to it (not that noticeable at first but when you've had've had periods for 15 years, you kind of know the smell). I woudn't have thought anythng odd this month but my temperature hasn't dropped yet this month and I keep getting these stabbing pains in my lower right hand side and my boobs are still a little tender still. I would ignore these but I did a test today and again this afternoon. Normaly i just imagine these lines but my husband said he could see them and so did my mum. I'm really worried because I bled for 7 days this month (my period is usually only 5 days). The lines on the test are really faint so I'm sure it's fine but has anyone else experienced this?

Well it sounds early for anything to do with an ectopic hun, as bleeding from ectopic usually starts between about 6 and 9 weeks, but you can't rule it out.

How many, in theory, dpo would you be now? And what are you testing on? IC's? If so, get yourself a branded test, as lines on IC's are usually faint until just about before the baby is born. If you are then definitely getting lines, then get yourself to EPU pronto and get them to get you scanned.

The one thing I do know to watch out for with ectopic is shoulder tip pain.....nasty shooting pains right into the shoulders. This is a sign that there is internal bleeding....and that things need sorting fast!

Hope all is OK and it would be great if it just turned out to be something like cervical erosion and you were preggars. :hugs:

An Ectopic Pregnancy is a normal fertilized egg that gets stuck in the fallopian tube (although occasionally it will fall into the abdominal cavity) and implants there. This type of pregnancy cannot survive and puts the mother at great risk for severe hemorrhaging and possibly even death as the baby grows and eventually bursts the tube. When the ectopic is discovered, the mother will immediately have surgery to remove the baby. Things will happen very fast, and most likely if this has happened to you, you are reading this after it is all over. If you are afraid you have an ectopic, the symptoms that you really want to watch for are: sharp, intense pain in your abdomen or possibly in your shoulder; a pregnancy test that is positive, then turns negative a few days later; and spotty red bleeding that continues.

Ectopics are usually caused by scar tissue in the fallopian tubes that could have been caused by: previous surgery in the pelvic region, uterus, or tubes; a pelvic infection such as chlamydia or pelvic inflammatory disease; or endometriosis that blocks the entrance to the tubes. If you have had one ectopic, your risk increases for another one.

I've not had a ectopic pregnancy but my friend has had three, all i can tell you is she knew straight away something was a-miss as the pain is meant to be very bad, when i asked her how she knew is wasn't just period pain, (because she didn't know she was pregnant untill the pain started), she said that she just know straight away, it was different from period pain.

I had an ectopic in Nov 08. I didnt know I was pregnant as I was having regular "periods" about a week after my period I started spotting, took a test it was postive, and started bleeding alot more and was in major pain. I would get to the doctor if you are worried that this could be the case.

With an ectopic the bleeding very much like plum juice and the pain is severe and stabbing. I wonder if you have had a chemical pregnancy. I'd test again and maybe go for a blood test.

i had an ectopic it was 6 week and they had to take my tube away with it i new because i started with brown blood and it smelt but i did nt have any pain with mine then they give me a inturnal scan and we seen it on screen xx :) xx

Thanks everyone. I don't think I'm having an ectopic pregnancy now as all pain seems to have gone and the tests don't have any lines on any more. Perhaps it was a chemical pregnancy, can't be sure. I was just worrying myself because my shoulder was hurting a bit but that's probably more to do with the weight of my bag(!) and I kept having these niggly little pains in my lower right side. God knows what it was but I seem to be back on track now so fingers crossed. Just fed up with all this spotting for ages. But I'm having a lap and dye done in August which should show if I have any internal problems going on which hopefully I won't. Thanks for all your replies girls x
