My friend's baby has moderate eczema. He's 17 weeks and I believe he's currently on SMA. Is there a formula that might be better for a dairy intolerance?

Nutramigen and Neocate are hypoallergenic formula milks so don't contain any cow's milk protein but I think you can only get them on prescription. All the shop bought brands will contain cow's milk apart from the Soya varieties. Has she seen her GP about it?

Thanks. I'm not sure if they've gone to their GP yet.

Another thing is that if he is allergic to dairy there's a high chance that he will also be allergic to soya. My LO is allergic to dairy and was prescribed nutramigen but it tastes awful and he just refuses it.

Oh dear :( How old is your LO? What do you give him when he refuses it?

My LO is 8 months old now and he is BF but I wanted to get him onto formula so that I can go back to work. Apparently Neocate tastes slightly better but I haven't been to the GP yet to get it prescribed.

hiya
my DD had terrible eczema and they suspect cows milk protein intolerance in her. She was firstly prescribed Nutramigen but her skin didn't improve at all and she didn't want to drink it. I have her on Neocate now and her eczema has almost cleared up.

If a child is intolerant to cows milk protein the eczema is mainly on their cheeks. They tend to suffer from Reflux, poor weight gain, constipation/diarrhoea, poor sleepers/feeders - these are some of the signs. However, some babies just have eczema if they aren't intolerant.

Aveeno is very good for babies with Eczema. X

He doesn't have it on his face - just around his joints and a bit on his chest. He has had quite bad diarrhoea though and hasn't been sleeping too well of late.
Thanks for the info, I'll pass it on.

Anyone know anything abput goat's milk formula? Is it any better?

We use SMA LF formula which you can buy in the shop. It is lactose free and completely cleared up my LO's eczema overnight! It also tastes exactly the same as the normal SMA.

This formula is available in Boots, Superdrug etc and is about £5.99 a tin. The tins are half the size of normal though! This milk is also available on prescription.

Not all excema is from a milk allergy..... it can be caused by detergent, soaps, etc... mainly the fragrance in them.. It can be caused by dust, mold, pet dander, etc.
