Tobi is developing eczema on his back, it seems to be quite bad, but doesn't bother him. It's in angry red patches all over. It seems to get worse after swimming and during the bath.

The dr has given us some stuff to put in his bath and two different creams for his body and his back. It doesn't seem to make much difference.

Does anyone have any advice as I have no idea about eczema! Should I go back to the doc, is there anything else they can do?

Thanks

Daniel has eczema on his legs and head.
I have been given DoubleBase gel cream (it looks vile).
I apply it AT LEAST 4 times a day. It is clearing up nicely now after 3 weeks of use.

I have also started using Soapnuts for his washing, instead of washing powder. I'm not sure if that has helped at all.

Megan had ezcema - but seems to be all gone (knock on wood!) Maybe she's already outgrown it?

We put hydrocorotisone cream on each patch 2x a day til it cleared up & then we stop using that. Normally we use a fragrance free cream based lotion head to toe to keep her skin hydrated after bathing. Bath time she only uses fragrance free products. I wash all our clothes, towels, etc in fragrance free detergent that is meant for people with sensitive skin.
Our dr said certain things can trigger it or make it worse- certain foods, mold, dust, pet dander, if she gets overheated (sweat), etc.

Che was diagnosed today with eczema on his legs and arms. He was prescribed hydrocortisone cream and some double based cream. I am a little concerned about using the steroid cream on him so will be interested to hear if anyone has other suggestions.

Thanks everyone, appreciate the comments.
We haven't been even hydraco..... cream, just petroleum... whoops, no, a paraffin based creams and Doublebase.
I apply it twice a day, but maybe it might be worth applying more often?

My dr said to apply the double based cream as much as possible and to put loads on.

Slap it on every opportunity you get. And don't be stingy with it. Use loads.
I don't try to rub it in til it is absorbed - I tend to leave it a bit 'wet' on his skin

I never had to use the hyrdorortosone very long (a few days usually in a spot). Petroleum type things never seemed to help Megan's ezcema much.

Vaseline (petroleum) made my Lo's eczema flare up horribly. I'd avoid it for eczema if I were you. Diprobase is great (it's like a thicker version of doublebase cream). And put it on whenever you can. It keeps LO's eczema well under control.
