I have thought about going private for tests rather than waiting,,, I looked into it slightly but seen the costs were also eg. hsg 1400.00,, But If its just clomid you want there would be tests they would do before the perscibe and you right you might get a more lenient you never know,

Sorry to hear your struggling with the wait. It is really frustrating isn't it.

I have been TTC for 21 months now and the 2 year mark is approaching fast.

My BMI is in the err.... HIGH 40's . I have tried every diet going, i have seen dieticians, i have gone to the gym and I have tried orlistat (diet pill given by doctor). I am currently waiting to go to a "diet group" run by dieticians, if that doesn't work then I will be offered surgery ... but its taken me 5 years to get to this point....you think waiting for help for fertility is long.... WOW help with weight is ridiculous. 5 years ago I walked in to my doctors and begged for help, i am now 3 stone heavier and its likely to be another 6 months at least until I get to go to these groups....

Doctor wants me to wait, have weight loss surgery (shows how confident she is i'm gonna loose weight at these groups ), loose the weight and then start TTC again..... had it not taken me 5 years to get to this point and probably going to be another year, year and half until I will be offered usrgery then I may have considered doing just that, but i'm not gonna sit for another 2-3 years and not try. Thing is I had alll the same symptoms of PCOS BEFORE I gained the weight... I used to be my "ideal" weight so nothing they say will convince me that my weight is the ONLY factor effecting my fertility. I have ALWAYS been irregular.

I can just imagine going to the FS.... i am dreading it. How are you finding the slimfast diet? Is it any good?

OOOOO I said the same thing to hubby just the other day about paying National Insurance and the NHS.

A HSG scares me but I suppose its necessary to have it checked. IF you do call the FS will you let me know how long they say the waiting list is? I just sent away our questionnaire last week so hoping to hear back very soon.

I got a quote from spire for an hsg - sure it was about £320, if that helps. I know it's still a lot of money.

If your knew what was wrong it would be so much easier, you can pick yourself up and count your options and get on with it I guess it’s the not knowing that’s the problem, and most folks probs,,,

My weight goes up and down contently I lost 3 stone that was with weightwatchers for my holiday in Turkey,,, I came back and put on a stone and i just thought am not putting it all back on,,, Never tried slim fast before It’s half price in Asdas at the moment so thought it would give it a go, it’s going ok I guess, the shacks actually taste nice, (Only thing I miss is really sitting down and actually having meals like not eating) But I get 2 shakes 1 healthy meal and 3 snacks if u want that is,,,

To tell you the truth it think it’s just giving me something to do and concentrate on,,,,

Am sorry to hear of you problems with weightloss, What’s Diet group that sounds good? Doctors don’t seem to understand I have never been 1 to ever go to doctors since probs ttc recently and I never realised how quickly they want you in and out ,,,

If you want something whether that be surgery or this diet group all i can suggest is to keep going every week if you have to,,, say its making you depressed if you need to, is it a 6 month wait to get into the groups? What do they offer in the groups?

I was moaning about losing weight to my hubby a few weeks ago,, and he bought me a biggest loser game for the wii i mean come on??? Right you don’t buy someone that? He was in the bad books for a while lol

Doctors aren’t always right and they don’t understand you can’t just stop TTC like that, and I mean how long it would be before you start again, I wouldn’t stop, couldn’t stop.

I can’t see weight being the only factor effecting your ttc journey,,, Hsg scares me but they say 40% of fertility probs is down to tubes, but that’s just a stat I came across online. And I think only if your tubes are blocked that it hurts bad from what i heard,,,

I haven’t got my questionnaire did not know to expect 1,,, what was it asking you? Your appointment might be close,,, Will def let you know the outcome when I call on Friday,

Yeah the not knowing is that hardest thing. Thing is I carried my son when I was plus sized before so I am confident I can do it again...if I can only get pregnant.

I lost 3 stone on WW when I was younger, got down to 10 stone ( my ideal weight) and I was still irregular back then too. I like WW but given my weight and stuff they want me to eat a ridiculous amount of food. I just can't do it. On their new system they gave me something like 56 point.... . Its just too much. i could only manage about 30 odd and they kept saying that was the reason i wasn't loosing weight, but I would feel ill if I ate 56 points worth a day.

Ooooh dear, hubby maybe made a bit of a boob on that one eh? Sure his heart was in the right place though.

Basically the diet group is a group that you have to attend where they educate you about food, its given to people who is on the waiting list for gastric band surgery. I am not sure what the time scale is, its taken me a year from seeing a weight specialist to seeing the person who runs and organises the groups. She said she "hoped" i'd get a place in a group which is run in broxburn sometime before christmas but she can't promise. You then have 7 sessions, 2 weeks apart and then a few follow up sessions. i am guessing they will take 6 months in total to complete before you are then offered surgery and put on the "proper" waiting list for it....its such a SLOOOOW process.

I am 99% that weight is not my only problem. I can accept that it may not be helping matters but for whatever reason I am not nor have EVER ovulated on a regular basis. I have had a cycle as short as 22 days and as long as 106 days..... My norm is between 30 and 37 ish....

I;ve heard the same about the HSG regarding it only painful if you have a blocked tube and I suppose in that case you NEED to know so its best you have it done. I will have it done if they offer but I am not looking forward to it.

Yeah I got a letter through maybe a couple of weeks after referral. It told me what DH and i had to get checked before they'd see us and had a questionnaire about how long we'd been TTc, how long we'd been married and our previous marriage details if any, and asked about any children we already have.

Hi babypink2010 I was also referred to see FS at ERI on September 30th so be good to keep in touch to compare notes. I really hope we hear something soon - even to be seen before christmas would be nice! My sister in law is having IVF at ERI just now and she was seen within 12 weeks so fingers crossed for us xx

Hey mojo86...sorry to butt in but was your SIL started on IVF within 12 weeks? When was that....I thought the wait list in Edinburgh was a couple of years.

I've got pcos so have been referred...my 1st appt was august, and I must say they've been great...things have moved so quickly

No no justwantababy she was seen at her first appointment after referral within 12weeks. 4 years later she is having IVF. She was classed as unexplained for a long time and then diagnosed with PCOS quite recently. How long did you wait to be seen? and what did they do at your first appointment? I was diagnosed with pcos in August and anxious as to what lies in store? xx

The waiting time for IVF at the royal seems to vary depending on your situation. Where my sis in law had to wait as she was unexplained fertility, my friend had one completely blocked tube and one ectopic on other side so tube removed. This was in January and she has just started IVF already xx

Ok, that makes sense. My GP referred me in march time, then shortly after that I got a letter from the ERI with a form to complete and return...the letter said once they received this form I'd be put on the wait list (which they advised was around 12 weeks). BUT one of the questions on the form was the date of my hubby's semen analysis. They wanted 2 dates at least 1 month apart, and he hadn't done one, so as this delayed us returning the form our wait was essentially 16 weeks. So if your oh hasn't had am SA, I would ask your GP about that.

In the interim I was able to get a second referral to the spire murrayfield thru private health insurance. It was them that diagnosed my pcos in may, and wrote to my GP saying to put me on clomid while I waited for my ERI appointment. So I was part way thru my 2nd clomid cycle at my first ERI appt.

My 1st appt was good...cos I already had a diagnosis (and I asked my GP for a copy of my bloods and letters from the spire) we had a consultation (oh also had to attend), and I had SJ internal scan to see if they could find any possible follicles. They didn't, but they booked me to come back the following week for another scan to see if anything changed. It hadn't, so they are moving me on to a higher dose of clomid for a scan monitored cycle. And if I still don't respond it's on to fsh injections.

How were u diagnosed with pcos?

I came off the pill last October and since then only had two periods. I went to GP in summer as had put on weight and was going crazy. They did bloods and scan and then more bloods and then diagnosed me.
At the same time I had also been seen in the GI clinic at the ERI as had been getting pain and had abnormal liver bloods and scan. This concluded fatty liver disease which I have now been told is as a result of my PCOS and the insulin resistance. I have since then had more bloods for pre conception that are apparently necessary prior to your appointment.
We have sent off one SA and the next will be sent in a couple of weeks. Then I suppose its just a waiting game from there. Was it just internal scans they did and no other tests? I have been reading about HSG and things but really hoping I wont need that as I have a diagnosis. GP also recommended having a smear test (even though not due til March) and a chlamydia test which has really offended me as I have been with my OH a long time. Did you have to have thses done prior to appointment??

No they just checked I was up to date with my smears.

I had an hsg done yesterday, just to rule out any problems there (fortunately there were none). It is by not exactly pleasant, but it's not that painful and over very quickly.

I'm lucky in that I don't have any of the weight or excess hair problems that typically go with pcos-my GP didn't suspect it (she only did tests as i came off the pill last august and had one period in Dec and one this April, and had never had a normal cycle prior to the pill)

It's good your GP ran so many tests for you, it all saves time. It's horrible waiting isn't it?!

Hey mojo 86, I was wondering if that was the case, i new someone with endo stage 4 whom stated when she wanted to have kids they move her up on the waiting list, sometimes i hope something is wrong so i dont have to wait long,,,,

I got my questionaire in the post the other day, And I have had all my test but my man still needs 1 blood test down before we send it back, going to docs next friday to arrange it and thats us sorted on the first wait of 12 weeks

There was a few test on the form states that u need em done before u get on waiting list so i would suggest doing em all now, Clymidia was on there, Will send u a list of em, If u like?

I aint sure of the dates of sa will need to call doc to confirm,,,

I think it's just a standard form to be honest,,, It did state needed all test before sending it back, but am not sure u might get dif one?? Our reason is low sa and i needed all my tests so maybe,,,,,
Am off to docs on Friday to get appointment my docs are a nightmare, will prob be nurse tho but want another sa anyways,,, cause dont think there was enough,,I am looking after my sisters kids this weekend whilst shes on holiday will pop the list on tom night when am home,,,,
I know what u mean with the whole chlamydia test lol I was like to the doc its ok I have been with him for years,, doc was like just incase and its needed to,,, its about the only test i didnt stress about the result lol,
Regarding you pcos have you tried angus castus (think thats how its spelt) Some ladies on ere recommend for pcos, if am not mistaken,

male semen analysis x2 with dates and both 1 month apart, chromosomes & lh,fsh, testosterone
female, progesterone, lh,fsh,e2, prolaction, tfts, & lh, fsh,e2 & rubella & chlamydia..

I am just worried that they are consintrating on my mans sa, and its just cause he was nervous, wen am going to docs on friday think i will order another sa,

and take it in the next week,,,, My diets been so bad recently, em fresh start tom me thinks get on the scales first thing,

Hi thanks my form actually came this morning!! Sounds like we have the same one and someone had part filled it in for us indicating what we do and dont need done before we send it back. We only need to send them the two SA dates and a letter of confirmation (I take it this is from the GP) and then we can send back. Turns out I dont need chlamydia test or any more bloods as all been done so thank god something going right for once. Hoping to get the form sent off as soon as next SA sent but going by waiting list it may well be after christmas before first appointment?! Hope you get on ok at the docs on Friday im sure it wont be a problem to do another SA?? Let us know how it goes and best of luck with the diet!!xx

Hi hun just me stalking about. My oh didn't need an appt for his SA....2 days a week (maybe Tues&thurs but can't be sure) they have a box on reception and he can just pop the sample in.

If you need me to dig out the days/times they accept samples let me know...sure I can find it xx

So I waited in line at 7.30am this morning for my doc's app, (when i call its constantly engaged) and for a pre bookable its like nearly 5 weeks!! It was really cold and and I wasn't even the first 1 there the reception opened at 8.30am so i got my appointment I was gutted that it was not with my GP but this women and she was so unhelpful!!

I was simply going to get a blood test, and a few dates for the questionnaire honestly, She even said Oh well I will do the blood test but as long as that's it??? wtf??
She did order another SA, but claims that she will have to order the tub as we wanted a home one, and she didn't know were they came from or how long they would take?
I also wanted the date of my last smear but god forbid she was able to access my details cause it was his appointment??? Come on? I only wanted a few things??

Anyways he did get the blood test and i was so annoyed I drove all the way up to the hospital to hand in the form myself? Am I crazy i know the post would have got it there by Monday but i was worrying in case it got missing, and think it i just needed the drive,,
I was going to ask for a tub there but never as i was still a bit annoyed

We are hopin the next SA we can get it Friday cause we are on holiday for 2 weeks,

After reading the letter again I noticed that you actually get the appointment date after 6 weeks, and if u don't hear back within 8 weeks to call,,,, So marked my calender the 4th November near remember remember the 5th Nov?

When did your questionnire go in, I feel annoyed with myself but least its in now? Have use been trying anything in the mean time? Hows the softcups?
