So this am I woke up went to the bathroom as usual wiped and there was brown discharge on the paper......wiped again and again still there.....called the dr. she said not to worry unless it goes through the weekend turns red and crampy then I have to be seen right away...She also said to take it easy today and if it stops today I can keep my normal appt scheduled for the 24th of this month....sorry long story but I was just wondering if anyone else has had this and had a positive outcome I cant help but be scared for my little one...... any help would be reassuring...

ps I have the angelsounds doppler the first thing I did even before I called the dr. was check for the heart beat its there and strong. Also all my scans to this point have been normal....

also posted in 2nd tri.

Fret not hun, this is probably nothing to worry about. In 4 pregnancies I had brown discharge in 3 of them - usually before 12wks, but in the twin pregnancy occasionally throughout. Brown blood is old blood and can be a perfectly normal pregnany "niggle".

Now you're at 17wks miscarriage is very unlikely, and if you were miscarrying (which you aren't) brwon blood would not be a sign at this late stage. Late miscarriage involves cramps, bleeding bright red fresh blood and downward pressure.

Relax hun, have a warm bath and snuggle up in front of the TV tonight - you're gonna be fine xxx

I had this at 16 weeks and again I think around 22 weeks and it terrified me. The first time I got our neighbour, who's a nurse, to come and listen on my angelsounds doppler as I wasn't very good at finding the heart beat, and she found it and said that brown blood is old blood from an old period that's just been dislodged because this is around the time the baby starts moving about more.

I also went to the midwife the next day for them to listen and they said the same thing. They also said, like your dr, that if it turned red or there was any cramping then go back.

The second time was just the same and we found the heartbeat good and strong again.

And don't worry about my signature saying Sophie came at 27 weeks - it was not connected at all!

Hope all is ok

xxxx

I can hear my baby's heart beat too thats a good sign...Just freaks me out about the old blood but it seems very common!

Hey Cerrie,

I had a bright red bleed at 14 weeks, that then carried on as brown spotting for the next four weeks. Its really not fun and worrying, so sending you big hugs :hugs:

I went up to the EPU to get checked out, and was told they thought it was cervix erosion which is caused by a build up of hormones on the cervix. It is very common, you'd be suprised by the number of other mums I have spoken to since who had some spotting but then carried on to have perfectly healthy pregnancy!

I'm 30 weeks now and have a very wriggly one in my tummy today, so an early bleed is not always a sign that something is wrong.

Try to relax, and take it easy over the next few days. If you notice any changes give your midwife a call, she wont mind.

I wanted to thank all of you for sharing your stories I very much appreciate it....I just got back from the dr's everything is fine. The heartbeat is good and strong 150bpm. My cervix is closed and there is only a little bit of brown blood remaining up there but is starting to look more like CM :) So good news, she did say I could have more spotting for the next couple days from the remaining brown blood plus the exam...Just going to relax today then its back to work tomorrow.
