Kayleigh will be 12 months on the 30th and I want to make her French Toast this morning. She has already had pasta etc... which has egg in it, and had the yolk cooked a few times, but never the whole egg. There is no history of allergies to egg in my family... do you think it would be okay? Closest hospital is around 30-45 minutes away...

As long as you aren't giving her raw egg I don't see the problem

Thanks! and nope, fully cooked lol I just hear so many people go on about having to wait because of allergies, and it scares me... I'm parnaoid as it is :haha:

I give Gabriel scrabbled eggs to eat all the time.

i believe the allergys thing is more for babies under 6 months but im not 100% on that.

i think as long as you cook it throughly, then you should be ok. make sure you know what to do if something does go wrong!

Well cooked eggs are fine from 6+ months hun. Omar started to have scrambled eggs at 7 months, one of his fav.

Ronan's had eggs from 6 months too. Go for it! :) I hope she likes them!

Yes, as the other ladies have said - eggs like most things ok from 6 months - as long as eggs are not runny.

Anna has scrambled eggs 2 or 3 times a week:flower:

Emma has been getting eggs from 6 months + as well. As long as there is no history in your family, it's perfectly fine.

Amira has been eating eggs since shortly after we started giving her solids, she loves them!

:hi: hun!! I miss seeing you around :) I so need to stick my nose in Canadian moms! xx

Thanks everyone! She had french toast and liked it. :) Didnt have much but no reaction. I checked with a local paramedic to see if they have everything to help with a bad reaction, and they do, so I felt better since we are 45 minutes away from hospital.

Scrambled eggs tomorrow I think :) Mmmm

i think its more of a concern if there is a family history of egg allergy. im allergic to eggs so have been advised to wait til 2 years old before adding eggs. he has them cooked in things though, just avoiding egg on its own

glad lo enjoyed it

A girl I had in daycare had an egg allergy - and they had no egg allergy in the family. She had things in with eggs all the time and we never knew she had the allergy. One time though (she was almost 2) she ate a good helping of scrambled eggs and about an hour later she started to swell up in her face and had a hard time breathing. She had an epi pen for a peanut allergy that I had to give her. Very scary stuff!

Just watch for reactions - dont give it right before a nap or bedtime so you can see them for a while. THere is more likely to be a reaction from things like scrambled eggs vs. the little bit thats on french toast or that is in products like noodles.

Megan hasnt had scrambled eggs yet for that reason - & her dr recommended waiting til 12 mo.

Here fish, eggs & strawberries are no no before 12 months. But I gave Omar all those at 7 months & he was fine. His Dr wanted me to stop giving them when we visited at 10 months, but I thought it's silly to stop after giving them for 3 months with no bad reactions. Omar loves scrambled eggs.

There is differences in the ages recommended for eggs, strawberries, & nuts. I now read some say to give nut products under a year - where megan's dr said no nuts til 1 year. Some places say ok for those things after 6 months.

If you give them eggs early with no reaction - I agree no sense to stop. That seems silly! With the daycare girl not knowing til she was almost 2 of an egg allergy - it shows that they can show up at any age. She hadnt eaten much egg product before then though - so its why it didnt show til then.

I had put her down for nap after she had eaten them and couldnt figure out why she wasnt sleeping. She didnt start looking puffy right away! It scared me out of trying eggs on Megan earlier.

I was suffering from aczema when I was a baby & I used to get a rash from eggs & strawberries. My mom didnt give me eggs or strawberries until I was 2 years old. Omar didnt have any aczema so I gave it a try from my omlette & he was fine. He was also having strawberries frm the fruit jars, & he was fine when I gave him fresh ones. xx

LOL This is one I boo boo'd on! Here all we were advised of was peanuts, milk, and honey. Of course, strawberries for me bc I have lots of cousins with allergies to them, but never thought about eggs. I have scrambled eggs almost every morning and for the past 2 weeks (maybe 5 different times in that 2 wks) Haley will reach and grab a small piece off my plate and eat it and I didnt think anything of it til I ran across it on another site lol

Sorry to hijack but I do have a question then...if she's already had them and not shown an allergy to them is it ok to continue?

My opinion - yes. Its what they say now about nuts too - to give them a small amount every day for 5 days & if you havent seen any reaction then you should be safe.

Megan's dr said no shellfish, strawberries, nuts of any kind(and nutbutters), eggs, milk, honey til 1 year. Then she said it was ok to mix in cows milk into cereals etc at 9mo and then start drinking it at 11 1/2 months. No honey til age 2. She didnt even mention these things at her 12 mo appt.

I figure I will try Megan on eggs soon here - I wouldnt be so gun-shy except the girl that I had to give the epi pen to!
