Is anybody having an elective c section? I have the option to choose one considering my first born was really poorly due to meconium aspiration, he spent 6 weeks in intensive care with various problems and 9 days at great ormond st hospital, so naturally me and oh are terrified of giving birth be it natural or c section, really don't know what to do!

I'm 25+4 weeks so still got plenty of time to decide. The thing I'm most worried about is the recovery from a section with having a three year old and a new born.

What would you do? Anyone have experience of an elective after a natural delivery?

Thanks x

I'm in a similar position. Emergency c section with my first, and now the thought of labouring makes me feel sick. But I do want to experience natural birth.
My section recovery wasn't too bad first time around, although then I didn't have a toddler haha. My son will be very nearly 3 when this LO is born. After my first section I was doing what I normally did pretty much straight away. The first day home I decided to brush my stairs haha. I think it depends on the woman, how much help you'll have and what your LO is like.

Hi,

I'm having my second elective. My first dd was an emergency section, then dd2 was elective.

It was AMAZING! After my emergency I though the recovery was fantastic, but that was nothing compared to my recovery after my elective. I was out if hospital within 24 hours, had NO painkillers whatsoever, and was up and about doing household jobs and lifting baby etc the next day. On day 3 we even had a day out.

I was driving within 2 weeks and it would have been sooner if if my doctor would have agreed it. I had a very active 19 month old to look after too but it was just so much easier than I anticipated.

This time I will have a 4 year old, and a 2 year 9 month old to look after too but I'm confident all will be ok again. I'll be having to do the school and nursery run pretty much right away too.

X
