Does anyone use them in winter?

Our house is very old and very cold. It also needs a lot of work doing to it, which I'm trying to do before baby comes but finances are tight.
We don't have central heating in our house so I usually use a converter heater when winter comes but I'm reading these are not safe around baby cause they dry the air out. I'm reading lots of conflicting information on the internet too. I'm worried cause I suffer with SAD in winter, sometimes it gets that bad I really want to hurt myself, I really don't want to feel like this when baby comes along so I need to try and keep the house as warm as possible for me but not too hot for baby.

HELP PLEASE!! With winter approaching here I really want to be organised!

Thank you

We didn't have radiators upstairs in old house. Baby bedroom would fall to 8C in winter.
We used the plug in oil rolled radiators. Not too inefficient, set on thermostat and timer and no worse to touch than a normal radiator.

Are the oil ones any good though? We used to have a small one but it was never really that good ? We would have it on all day but I still felt really cold. Doesn't help having a low body temp anyway.

God I'm dreading winter already! :(

We use electric heaters because we found them cheaper than the wall heaters installed in our apartment. I hadn't thought if they would be bad for baby or not, definitely something to look into. If it dries the air there's always getting a humidifier for baby's room.
