I've had my daughter's name picked out since I was 16 weeks and found out she was a girl. As soon as I announced it, there was an influx of "Ew." "It's boring". "Too popular". "It doesn't go well with Natalie". "I'm not a fan"...and the worst, my own mother calling at random hours to tease "Emelia Bedelia" over and over again. She's the type that will do that right to my daughter's face too.

My mother has been the most opinionated about the name and the most negative.

So I made an announcement that Emelia was never the name I was planning and it was a coverup for her real name, which is going to be Helga, because I want her to have a name close to my mother's name, which is Olga. I said I said it was Emelia because I was worried about opinions on Helga.

People bought it lmao.

It won't be Helga, but I don't know if it will be Emelia either. I'm crushing on Delilah too, so once she's born, I'll pick and announce. Until then, she's Helga.

So Emelia Natalie Reese or Delilah Natalie Reese?

3D ultrasound included to get an idea of what she looks like.

If it was me I'd definitely stick with Emilia, just to show your mum that this is YOUR daughter and she doesn't get to dictate on the name. Delilah is pretty too though :)

Delilah is more in line with current trends and popularity. Emelia is not so much. It's not often heard if that is what you're going with. I don't like the way Emelia rolls of the tongue though. Delilah was on my short list but DH cut it.

Delilah is one of my absolute favourite girl names, but I think Emelia is really nice too (though I slightly prefer the look and sound of Amelia).

I get called Emily Bemily all the time and I have a friend called Emma that gets called Emma Spemma - it might be something about the 'Em' sound that makes people want to rhyme it? Emily Bemily has never bothered me though. If you like Emelia the best, go for it. Think of your mums taunting as her 'cute special nickname' for your daughter and don't let it bother you - she'll probably drop it if you embrace it if her intention is just to annoy you.

There's a very popular Children's Book series from the 60's called Amelia Bedelia, and she's extremely clumsy and foolish, taking everything literally and my mother just thinks it's hilarious (although I think it's immature) to call at all random hours to tease it. I have no doubt in my mind she'll do it to her face. One thing for kids to do it, and a whole other for family.

I prefer the look of Amelia too, but my last two both (unintentionally) have A names and I don't want to stick with that theme. I also prefer Emi as a nickname to Emelia than I do Amy as a nickname to Amelia.

Delilah really seems to be the one I'm crushing hard on, but who knows if it will last

Oh, I've never heard of the books before. Yes, it is different if it's in reference to an actual character rather than just rhyming it with something especially if that character is foolish. I'm not a fan of letter themed names for multiple siblings either. Emi is a super cute nn for when she is little and Em or Ems works for when she gets older if she wants to drop the 'cute' nn, but Delilah is still my favourite. Any ideas of a nn if you go with Delilah?

Lilah is the first that comes to mind. My only hesitation is that she's going to be named after my best friend, Natalie, and Natalie has a daughter named Layla. It almost looks and sounds too close and stalkerish to have a (De)Lilah Natalie, when there's already a Layla and Natalie close to us.

Otherwise I might consider Ellie, but I don't know how I could justify getting Ellie out of Delilah.

I like the sound of Delilah but I can't get over my old Friends addiction. Whenever I hear Delilah, I think of Rachel saying her daughter will be named after a biblical whore. I'm guessing if that's my association, others might have it as well. Not that I'm saying that should stop you but when it comes to teasing, Delilah seems more prone to it than Emelia.
