I just had the cerclage stitch put in a few days ago and have been prescribed with 100mg Prometrium (Progesterone) suppository. This is my first baby, and I am only 23 weeks.
I was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix; 1.7cm with funneling.
I really want to carry my son to term (or at least close to) but, how effective is this procedure along with the medication?
I am also on bedrest until further notice. I really need advice from any first hand moms out there. I cant stop thinking of all the risks!! Does anyone have any advice for me?

Hi bree, I had one placed at 21 weeks and 3 days. My cervix was 0.7mm with external funelling. I am presently 25 weeks and 4 days. I am also on progesterone suppositories 200mg twice a day. My doctor says the stitch helps give or take for 5weeks on average. Put your feet up as much as you can and hope for the best. Thinking of u.

In my 2nd pregnancy I had and emergency one placed at 24 weeks with bulging membranes and I managed to get to 32+ weeks with it and no bed rest.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnanacy hun :hugs:

Make sure it's placed in a sterile room, not a regular room. I know a couple of different people that had them placed and got infections from it that lead to MC. They didn't have sterile rooms available, so did it in the regular room. If you need to wait for a sterile room.

I haven't had one but look at it this way even if it just helped by a week that's a whole week of your baby getting stronger so just rest as much as you can to help your little cutie stay put xxx

I had a rescue cerclage done at 21 weeks with my previous pregnancy after a 20 week ultrasound showed .9cm cervical length with funneling. I wasn't put on progesterone but was on strict bedrest until delivery, some hospital bedrest and some at home. I had the cerclage removed at 34+2 because I was starting to have contractions and they didn't want my cervix to dilate through the stitch - my water broke at 35 weeks and DS was born 8 hours later. He didn't have to go to NICU at all either which was a huge blessing but shocking to me (in a good way)! Just try to stay off your feet and take it one day at a time - there are tons of success stories and staying positive is all you can do right now. Each day baby stays baking is one small step to the finish line :flow:
