Birth story:
The morning of Saturday, September 21, I woke up at about 2:30, feeling very nauseous. After getting up and going to the bathroom, laying back down, tossing and turning, I got up to try some gingerale. Standing in front of the refrigerator at 3am, my water broke! I couldn't believe it! I ran and woke Josh up, called the doctor (after I finally stopped
shaking!), we packed, and were out the door by 4! We even stopped in Virginia for gas and a smoothie (and coffee for josh!). We arrived at the ER around 5:30 am.
The resident checked my cervix around 7am after they confirmed that I was indeed leaking my waters, and my cervix was too high to determine if I was even dilated or not. They decided to wait and see what happened. I was having light contractions, at very random intervals, and they got stronger and stronger as the day went on. After 3 doses of cytotech to soften my cervix, the contractions were so bad that I decided to try pain medication through my IV (around midnight). The medication was great, but only lasted just over an hour. At 2 am (and only at 2 cm) we started pitocin and I got an epidural. I slept off and on until 6 am, when the nurse came in to check me, and I was dilated to 10 cm! She told me that since I didn't feel the need to push, and baby was doing so great, that I could wait and see how much my body did to get Emmie out. My epidural started wearing off and around 9 am I decided the contractions were so bad she had to come out. We started pushing at 9:20, and she arrived at 10:51 am! She came out breathing great, and was perfect! Daddy got to cut her cord!
Her stats:
Birthday: Monday, September 22, 2014 at 10:51 am.
Weight: 6 lbs, 10.5 oz
Length: 20 in.
Other than some trouble nursing and some jaundice, Emersyn has been doing great! Mommy and Daddy are so in love!
