When I initially went to GP and FS with regards to TTC, they would always ask the usual questions...how long been trying, how often having sex, and if it HURTS during sex? Now I always used to say no to the last question, as it was true at the time...........now I don't know......they say that it could be a sign of endometriosis ...but I don't really know what the 'pain' is supposed to feel like. To me it feels like period pains??! But thats just initially, then its fine. Is that something else? What else should I be feeling? I don't have heavy periods when they do come. I have spotting for a day or two, full flow for 2 days then spotting for 2-3 days after.

I didn't want to read and run sweetheart, but I don't know the answer to that one. Have you searched Google? I might and come back to this thread.

Edit to add:
I found this, might be a little help.
Pain in the pelvic region ranging from very mild to severe is the most common symptom, but you may not experience any symptoms. Some women describe the pain as sharp and burning. It may last all month long, but is usually worse during menstruation, deep penetration during intercourse or bowel movements.

I have a mild case of endo, and it was really painful to have sex. It would hurt in the beginning, and then once I was really into it, then it felt better. It would also hurt if he was deep inside (tmi, sorry!). I would feel like I was going to start my period after sex, and once I had a large cyst burst right after... It was the worst lower abdominal pain I have ever had!

Sex should not hurt, so if it hurts at all it could be endo. Have them do a pelvic sonogram immediately to rule it out. I had a laparoscopy to fully diagnose my endo.

Good luck! I had my lap in Nov 2008. I'm on clomid now, so I pray endo doesn't get in my way anymore. Please get checked out!

I think if you feel any discomfort during sex you should have it checked. It could be Endo and you want to know if it is. It can be treated. Good luck!

endo can be helped by excision surgery by experts....apparently, i am too new to post websites, but just add the proper info to get the website addresses, sorry

check out the CEC, they're amazing, centerforendo

and so is naprotechnology (see surgery section)

progesterone can help, but excision surgery removes the endo

johnleemd

diet can also help

endometriosis (this is org)

makingbabies

endo-resolved

erc.activboard (google it if it doesn't come up)

pain during sex is usually endo in the cul-de-sac / pouch of douglas and can be excised BY AN EXPERT not usually an ob/gyn or RE

By the way, you really do want the endo excised by an expert...it's an area most non-experts cannot get to and it can invade other areas...you also probably have it other places

Hi there

The only way to diagnose endometriosis is to have a laprascopy. It can be just to diagnose or they will go in there and remove the endo scars and adhesions. I have severe and aggressive endometriosis and I am one of those ladies who does not have pain during sex. Nor any other time, besides some off twinges around my ovaries at ovulation time. There are many other symptoms, especially have bowel problems such as IBS. But i do believe most ladies complain about is pain during sex and constant tiredness.

Hun, please dont worry until you have the lap. Good luck.

My OB suspects I might have it, but I'm not ready to do the lap surgery.
I also ended up getting a cyst on my cervix which is painful sometimes. But apparently can be pretty common. It was after I had J&E, and a year or longer after the endo was suspected. Cysts can be nasty little things!

Thanks so much guys. You have been really helpful in helping me understand my symptoms. I fear like it could be the answer to some wierd things that I just don't know what they have been all about.

Sorry if its TMI:

Bebecake, I totally understand what you mean.....to me it hurts during sex ...like dull achy bloaty period pains, but like you only at the beginning and then once I'm into it, it's fine. I thought that maybe he is too big?! But it never used to happen before.....this has only come about in the last 2 years or so, so I did think it was abit wierd that his manhood has grown!! In the past, the day after sex I would get such sharp pains in my abdomen, I felt sick and dizzy and I couldn't move for the pain....I had to take strong painkillers and sleep it off......I later realised that it was a cyst bursting which they diagnosed during several TVS, saying that I had haemorrhagic cysts, which means that the cysts grow and then burst. Only after what you have told me I have realised that it was actually the day after sex...I had never really put the two together....maybe it makes the cysts burst?

I also did a quick google search and alot refer to having a laparoscopy....I really dont know what it is and I am scared to death of the procedure.....I worried my socks off thinking that, what if the surgeon scrapes or snips off the wrong thing? What if he pokes my ovary, or damages my fallopian tube...apparently you can get scarring on your ovaries from any kind of procedure. And then of course, I also read somewhere that it can still come back after lap and then does it really increase the chances of you conceiving or hAs anyone with endo become preg without treating it?

Dilek, I also feel tired ALL the time..is that also a symptom? But I dont get heavy bleeds....if I complain at work that I am tired, everyone jumps to the conclusion that I must be pregnant and I could just cry cos I'm wishing IF ONLY I wouln't care about being tired!!!

Hi Hun

I dont have heavy bleeds and i use to worry that my period wasnt long enough.

In regards to the lap,

1. Yes any scarring or the removal of ovary tissue is not good for fertility. But they will only touch your ovary if you have any cysts or any scarring attached to the ovary.

2. Most laps are done with womans outpatients, they are gyno specialists and they understand the importance of preserving your fertility.

3. You are right, more than likely the endo will return after a lap. But there are women out there that it hasnt returned. I am not one of them :cry::cry:

Ok, im out of points here. But 1st of all you need to know if you have endo or not. Its day surgery, you will go in the morning and out in the afternoon. I think this is very similar to when ladies have there fallopian tubes checked if there are any blockages. Endometriosis has many gradings from really to mild to severe. Depending what grade it is, there are many ways to conceive. Ie naturally, clomid, IUI, IVF, ICSI. The surgeons specialise in this, and hun if you dont have it checked out the endo can spread cause so much damage to your reproductive system and make things stick to other areas. Please dont ignore and get it checked out.

I really hope im not scaring you, but endo is a serious condition which you should really have a good talk with your GP and go over your concerns.

My entire family has endo, and every time they have had the surgery, they have gotten pregnant. Endo is bad while trying to have a baby, because if you don't have the right hormones, then the endo tricks your body into thinking it isn't pregnant and releases flow before it should. You could have a healthy luteal phase, but never get pregnant because of it. I had cysts removed and I had everything else thoroughly checked out. My doctor says that my body should be good to go :) We will see... They have me on progesterone which counteracts the endo releasing flow. The progesterone tricks your body into thinking you are pregnant, so you don't start AF before you should. Do the surgery or get checked out before going any further. You would kill yourself if you wait and then knew if you had only done it now everything would be better... Sorry for rambling. Feel free to PM me any time.

I haven't started AF yet and I took clomid this cycle, but I feel the :witch: coming on, and I took a hpt today and it was a :bfn:. I'm pretty bummed right now

One week ago I had a lap done to diagnose Endo. I was told that I had a significant amount of it behind my uterus and a very small amount around the ovaries and that more than likely this was why we've had problems.
This was my first surgery EVER and I stressed about it a lot:rofl: Strangely, right before the surgery I was VERY relaxed. It was an outpatient procedure and everyone at the center was so nice!!! I was on my way home only an hour after I woke up.
Everyone's experience with this minor surgery is going to be different, and while I wouldn't say having it done was "fun", I would do it again in a heartbeat to keep the pain away. There's also that whole making babies part that makes it worth it :)
As far as the endo symptoms are concerned... I also had discomfort during sex (esp. in certain positions). Menstrual cramps were excruciating. Gyno had me on Lortab. I would have awful IBS and EXTREME bowel pain during that week. It was so bad that I either had to sit forward or back, being on my tailbone was not an option!

I would get it figured out hun. Endo manifests itself differently in everyone so just because you don't have all of the same symptoms doesn't mean you don't have it. The lap isn't bad at all~ I was up the next day and the incisions are impressively small!

Good luck, if you have any questions don't hesitate to pm me! I am an open book
