Are you ok to have an energy drink while pregnant? I havent had any while pregnant and i havent had any coffee or anything but i was feeling so rundown with work and tierd i drank an energy drink on my dinner today:/ now iam worried if this will affect my baby? Xxx

They are very high in caffeine be carful! I'd give them up xx

I was speaking to my friend. Someone she knows was pregnant and didn't care about her pregnancy really. She smoked loads, drunk loads of energy drinks and gave birth 12 weeks early! The little girl died unfortunately. The post mortem said the baby wasn't agreeing with the milk the mum drunk and it caused a hole. But just be careful please. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Xx

Loads of caffeine can affect the baby and most energy drinks are very high in caffeine, but powerade is the only energy drink with no caffeine that I know of x

Energy drinks have around 80mg caffiene in, and the guidelines are no more than 200mg a day, so id say theyre ok every now and again, so long as you arent having lots of other caffiene x

Coffee isn't as bad as energy drinks, caffeine wise. I think if you just had one energy drink you should be fine. I definitely wouldn't make it a habit though. Would drinking a Coke help? They have caffeine of course but are under the recommended limit if you have it in moderation..

I'd say the occasional energy drink wouldn't hurt but all the time, no. Too much caffeine and sugar. I usually make someone split one with me if I want one.

Personally, I've had ONE can of energy drink since becoming pregnant, and was told it's okay as a one off.
My friend drank a can of red bull every day in her pregnancy and the baby was fine, but I'd never risk it.
Don't worry too much, just don't live on them.

Im the same. Ill open one...have a few sips then hubby is happy to finish the rest. All about moderation Id say

The problem with energy drinks is it's not just caffeine and sugar. There's other energy boosting supplements in them, vitamins and stuff like taurine. It's simply unknown what some of those others could do. As a one off, I wouldn't worry, but don't make it a habit. It even says on some cans "not for pregnant women."

There was one day I was craving one a bit so I took about a fourth of the can and mixed it with a sports drink. I couldn't even finish the mixed before I was shaking hard from the sugar and caffeine. between already having a low tolerance and having been off caffeine for soo long, I couldn't handle it.

If I need a boost, I'll do a small bottle of starbucks frappuchino. There's still a lot of sugar, but the caffeine amount doesn't give me the shakes.

How about soda? I drink a lot of coca cola during the day. Maybe 4 glasses? :/ A lot? I drank it with all my kids and they seem okay, a little on the hyper side, but okay.

I wouldn't drink energy drinks though because as someone here said, they have other stuff in them that's not safe.

I can't believe a baby died because it didn't agree with something the mom was drinking, something as innocent as milk. It freaks me out to think anything we consume can hurt our babies. :(

Like others have said, as a one-off it won't have done any harm but I wouldn't have anymore. Energy drinks aren't good for you when you're not pregnant let alone when you are.

I really love the taste of redbull and wish someone would make an alternative with the same flavour but not all the caffeine suger etc!

As to your original question, I wouldn't do it all the time but i expect just the once won't have been a disaster.

Energy drinks in the UK have the 'not suitable for pregnant women' warning symbol, the same one as on alcoholic drinks. Something I only noticed once becoming pregnant.

I've been having the odd small bottle of Lucozade as a lift me up when my appetite has been odd and I have had no energy whatsoever.

I actually like Purdey's as it has all the vitamins I need and as far as I can see has no caffeine in it. I double checked with the health store yesterday that it's ok in pregnancy and it is. It's cold, fizzy and refreshing and tricks my body into thinking I am drinking something like my beloved Pepsi.:haha:

xx

Lucozade is fine to have during pregnancy, just best not to go overboard. Lucozade even had adverts directed at pregnant women as recently as the 80's to help combat morning sickness.

The dr told me to.have lucozade to help with morning sickness lol x

They are ok every once in awhile. Look at the caffine content of the one you're drinking, they're usually between 80-100mg, and you can have 200mg a day. Caffine is the most dangerous during the first trimester.

I craved red bull when pregnant with DD. And I'd drink the occasional monster. I have an EXTREMELY high tolerance for caffine, I took pills before pregnant haha. So it doesn't affect me that much, and with my DD it never made her move more or anything. I even drank a red bull before my 2nd gender scan so she'd move and we could try and tell what she was, and nope, was awake but being stubborn and still!

So don't feel bad, us mums and pregnant ladies need a bit of caffine to get us through the day sometimes!

Thanks everybody, yeah it was deffo just a one off, il have to have a coffee next time im feeling crap! Xx
