Hi ladies,

I am really upset that I am at a point in my life where I have to seek out government assistance.I wish I was more stable as a new mom,but unfortunately I have to depend on the government for her benefits.

So I went to WIC to pick up her voucher for milk. They took me off of wic so no more assistance for milk, eggs, etc which is fine,my concern is her

She has been on Enfamil since birth, and now due to FINANCIAL cuts, they had to reduce the amount of milk and brand

So now I recieved a voucher for Gerber Good Start,I know nothing about the brand.

What do you know about that brand?
How are they just going to switch her off of enfamil to another brand like that?
Is Good Start a cheaper brand with less nutrients?
I really wish I could have breast fed
Enfamil is in her bottle now,how is her next bottle going to be Good Start?

Advice?

Good Start is great. I wish I could use it. The milk protein is partially broken down, which is easier on all babies even if not allergic/intolerant. It's a very good formula so don't worry at all.

There's no such thing as a nutritionally deficient formula. They're all nutritionally complete. Good Start will be just fine! :)

As for how to switch to Good Start from Enfamil, I would just make her a bottle of Good Start and see how she does. She might have a couple of weird poos but will probably adjust really fast. If you're worried, you could always do one scoop of Good Start and the rest Enfamil and change the proportions until she's completely on the new formula. Then you'll be kind of weaning her onto it gradually. I did this when I switched from Similac to Up & Up. Honestly I don't know if it made any difference (he still had a weird poo! Didn't bother him though) but hey.

Don't stress hun. Good Start is a great formula since the protien source is whey and is partially broken down for easy digestion. I just switched lo from Enfamil to Good Start by choice to help with gassyness and she's doing fine and seems a bit better after only one day :)

Gerber is a very trusted brand of baby food, WIC wouldn't use it if it wasn't. As was said above also, baby formula is very strictly regulated, they all have the same nutrients, even the store brands. Good Start isn't cheaper than Enfamil anyway, when it first came out on the market it was but since it's popular and widely used now they've uped the price :p to basically the same as their competetors (enfamil and similac). You're lo will be perfectly fine switching and you can do it gradually if you still have some enfamil left, but a straight switch should be fine too. :D
