Hi I had my 12 week ultrasound on Monday and noticed that baby had an enlarged bladder. When my ob came in he just said there was bad news and referred me to a perinatologist which I now have an appointment on January 7th to do a better ultrasound. My doctor did not say anything else about the baby and could not explain much. I was just seeing if anybody else had something similar happen or what to expect. Thank you in advance, I did some Googleing and just came up with horror stories so I am very worried.

Hi Hun my bubba had a dilated bladder and kidney. He has a duplex kidney and collection system on the right and had a ureterocele filling his bladder ( like a cyst). This was popped in an op at 6 months old which helped the hydronephrosis go down in his kidney. He's just had a nuclear scan to see how much of his kidneys are working on Thursday.

Your baby might not be this but hopefully it's something this simple. Sending lots of love Hun xxx

Thank you so much I'm hoping it's something simple they can't do as putting in a shunt or even something that will correct itself. I've just been racking my brain worrying and can't wait until my scan on the 7th to see how baby is doing.

aww hun im really sorry your having to wait so long but then again i had to wait 2 weeks for my consultant scan (the original woman had only been able to find one kidney). i will have everything crossed for you. Will you please come and update me on how it goes <3 xx

So sorry you're going through this and that your doctor didn't tell you much of anything - I wonder if calling the Perintologists office would help - maybe they'd be able to give you more information based on what your doctor sent over?

My first baby was diagnosed with a severely enlarged bladder at 13 weeks and unfortunately it didn't end well for us, but in his case the diagnosis was as dire as they come and I know that in many cases the condition resolves itself (the baby's bladder eventually "blows itself out") and then everything is fine. And of course as you mentioned there is the possibility of inserting a shunt as well.

There is a documentary on Netflix called Born Twice and it featured a couple whose baby had an enlarged bladder. They were sent for an ultrasound with a perintologist to investigate further and see if a shunt would help and were told the situation had resolved itself and the bladder was a normal size again. The baby needed minor surgery after birth but was otherwise perfectly healthy.

I'll pray that your baby's enlarged bladder resolves itself. Feel free to pm me if you'd like to talk about it further. :hugs:

Thank you so much I've seen the documentary and it gives me hope I'm sorry to hear about your LO. I will come back and update I have a regular ob appointment on the 28th but no ultrasound but I'm hoping my doctor will sneak me in for one since I don't see the perinatologist until the 7th.

Good luck at your appointment :hugs: I can't really advise as my LO looked completely 'normal' on scans but I know how hard the waiting is. ♡

i hope they sneak you in for an ultrasound tomorrow hun <3 good luck <3 <3

Thank you I hope they sneak me in too, if not at least I'll get to hear baby's heart beat!

No ultrasound at last appointment just talked about the specialist that I am seeing this Thursday, crossing my fingers!

Update:
Had my ultrasound with the specialist today and unfortunately I got bad news. Baby still has enlarged bladder with other multiple problems. Baby has fluid on the back of the neck, low amniotic fluid, bottom of the spine isn't formed, one of the legs isn't growing normally along with club feet. Doctors believe it to be genetic or chromosome disorder chance of survival al they say is about 0% don't expect baby to make it next couple of weeks. I am being scheduled to deliver the baby early next week because there is almost no chance of survival. Been a very sad day, thank you for everyone's support.

Oh honey I'm so sorry, in tears reading that. I hoped so much that your little one would have a better diagnosis than my angel did. I know how you're feeling right now and all I can do is send you hugs and prayers. Life can be so cruel sometimes.

I'm here anytime if you need to talk. :hugs:

I'm so sorry to hear this, thoughts and prayers are with you x

So sorry to read your sad update, I have no words really, x

Thank you for everyone's thoughts still kind of in shock but I'm glad to have support from friends and family to help me make it through this time.

I'm sorry. :( My thoughts are with you and your family. :hugs:
